Create, edit and duplicate an action in Link’nX
Link’nXAdministratorInstaller
Link’nX web: Actions list, creation, editing and duplication form
In Link’nX, an action is a ready-to-use command that a scenario executes: writing to KNX group addresses, an HTTP call, a Sonos, DoorBird, Daikin or other integrated device command. Creating, editing and duplicating use the same form for all types; the parameters specific to each type have their own guide.
Intended for administrators and installers who prepare the commands of their automations. First check the project and the gateway displayed.
Create an action
Section titled “Create an action”- Open Actions in the navigation, then click Add. The form opens with the title Action creation.
- In Select an action type, choose the type you want. Search a type… filters the choices and accepts a search without accents; if No matching type appears, clear the search. The integration types offered may depend on the options enabled.
- Enter the Name: required, 64 characters maximum, not made only of spaces. In a KNX action, this field is at the top of the KNX form.
- Fill in the parameters of the chosen type (see the table below).
- Click the floppy disk on the round button at the bottom right and wait for Success!. The action appears in the list.
Choose the type before filling in the name and the parameters: changing the type during creation resets them.
Find the guide for each action type
Section titled “Find the guide for each action type”| Area | Guides |
|---|---|
| KNX and HTTP | KNX actions, HTTP actions |
| Audio | Sonos actions, BluOS commands, Denon/HEOS commands |
| Intercoms and cameras | local DoorBird commands, 2N commands, Hikvision, Reolink, UniFi Protect |
| Climate and energy | Airzone actions, Daikin actions, Gude settings and command path caveat, Atmoce commands and save caveat, Evlink Pro AC, Lektri.co and Terra AC EV chargers, with the caveats specific to scenarios |
| Access, locks and shutters | UniFi Access actions and door rules, Nuki commands, Somfy actions |
| Network | UniFi Network actions and network targets |
| Notifications | Pushover actions |
| TVs | Samsung commands, Sony settings to have validated |
Edit an action
Section titled “Edit an action”- In the Actions list, click the name of the action or the pencil icon of its row. The form opens with the title Action modification.
- Edit the parameters. The Action type stays read-only: Impossible to modify the type when editing.
- Click the floppy disk.
- If Scenario affected by this change: or Scenarios affected by this change: appears, reread the names, then choose SAVE. CANCEL returns you to the form.
- Wait for Updated!.
Before making any change, you can view the related scenarios.
Duplicate an action
Section titled “Duplicate an action”- Open the three dots of the row, then Duplicate. The form opens with the title Action duplication and the name receives the suffix — New Copy.
- Give it another name, within the 64-character limit.
- Check the copied parameters, then save.
The copy is not added to the scenarios of the original action: add it yourself where it is needed. For a KNX action containing decimal values, contact support before editing or duplicating it.
Save before leaving the form
Section titled “Save before leaving the form”Depending on the type and the screen width, editing or duplication opens in a full page or in a panel next to the list. KNX actions open in a full page.
- In a panel, Edit in full page opens the full page. No unsaved-changes confirmation is offered there: save before closing the panel or switching rows.
- In a full page, the Unsaved changes window offers Cancel, Don’t save and Save. If Save leaves you in the form of an action used by scenarios, use the floppy disk, then SAVE in the affected scenarios confirmation.
Use the action
Section titled “Use the action”Creating an action and running it are separate operations: saving does not run the action.
- To use it in an automation, add it to the relevant scenario.
- To try it on the installation, follow the run guide.
- To offer it to HomeKit, see selecting exports and launch limits.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”After Success! or Updated!, find the action in the Actions list and reopen it to reread its name and parameters.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- Issue with field ‘Name’.: check the name, the spaces and its length, especially after a duplication.
- The form does not close or another blockage appears: follow the action troubleshooting.
If the type you are looking for remains absent or if the save does not succeed, contact support@can-nx.com with the context, the action type and the message displayed.
