Generate KNX actions from ETS group addresses in Link’nX
Link’nXAdministratorInstaller
Link’nX web: Actions, Generate button, Action generation page with an uploaded ETS file
The Link’nX generator creates KNX actions from the group addresses of your ETS file: one action grouping several addresses, or one action for each chosen address. You then check these actions like actions entered by hand, with the KNX actions guide.
Intended for installers and administrators who prepare the KNX commands of a project.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The Link’nX context already has an uploaded ETS file. Check the project and the gateway displayed.
- If an ETS filter is saved, it may limit the list of addresses offered.
Select the group addresses
Section titled “Select the group addresses”- Open Actions, then click Generate, the button with the magic wand in the top bar. The Action generation page appears. The information icon in the header reminds you that the addresses come from the ETS file and that an ETS filter already applied may limit the list.
- Expand the main groups, then the subgroups, with the arrow in their header.
- Check the addresses you want. A subgroup’s checkbox selects its addresses; a main group’s checkbox selects the addresses of its subgroups. A partially checked box indicates a partial selection.
- To find an address, use KNX group address. Fictitious examples: 1 filters main group 1, 1/2 subgroup 2 of this group, 1/2/3 this full address. This field searches the address, not the name of the equipment.
- Clear the search and check all the boxes before generating. Filtering and collapsing groups keep the selections, and checking a group may include addresses hidden by the search.
Choose the generation mode
Section titled “Choose the generation mode”The two buttons are at the bottom of the page.
| Button | Result | Browser window that follows |
|---|---|---|
| Generate one action with multiple addresses | A single action grouping the checked addresses | Enter a name for your new action. |
| Generate one action per address | One action per checked address | Are you sure to create Multiple actions/One address? |
Run the generation
Section titled “Run the generation”- Click the button of the chosen mode.
- If the Addresses already in use window opens, read its KNX group address, Action name and Value columns. Choose Cancel to review the selection: the addresses concerned are marked in use; uncheck the ones you do not want to reuse. Choose Confirm only if reusing these addresses is intended: the generation request continues.
- Answer the browser window. For one action with multiple addresses, give an explicit name, not made only of spaces, 64 characters maximum so that it can be reused in the action editor, then confirm; canceling or an empty name does not start the generation. For one action per address, confirm to send the request, or cancel to keep the selection without starting the request.
- Wait for Success!: the interface returns to Actions.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”Find the actions created, open them and check their name, their addresses, their DPTs and their values with the KNX actions guide. Explicitly configure the known values before using them; for a decimal value, ask support for the appropriate procedure. If the name or a generated value does not match your need, reread and correct the action in its form rather than running it to find out.
Generation does not test the equipment and does not add the actions to a scenario: for the next steps, follow the scenario composition guide. To remove an action created by mistake, check its possible related scenarios, then follow the deletion guide.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Symptom or message | Action |
|---|---|
| Select at least one address to proceed. | No address is selected: check at least one row. |
| The address list seems empty | Clear the search, check the context, then the saved ETS filter. |
| The generated actions remain missing in Actions | Clear the list filters and the search. |
Avoid repeating a request whose result is uncertain, so as not to create duplicate actions. If the addresses remain absent, if the confirmation does not return to the list or if the expected actions remain missing, contact support@can-nx.com with the context, the generation mode and the message displayed.
