KNX action in Link’nX: send values to group addresses
Link’nXAdministratorInstaller
Link’nX web: full-page KNX action form, entry block and Added actions list
A Link’nX KNX action sends a value to one or more group addresses, each with its own DPT. A scenario executes it, or you run it manually for a test. To create actions in one go from the addresses of the ETS file, use the KNX action generator instead.
Intended for installers and administrators who know the group addresses, DPTs and values suited to the equipment. Boolean values, integer numeric values and text intended for a DPT 16 are prepared as described below. To prepare, edit or duplicate commands with decimal values, contact support with the result you want.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The group addresses, their DPTs and the values to send are known.
- To fill in the fields by selection rather than by hand, the ETS file is uploaded to Link’nX.
- To command a Shelly device, its KNX mappings are prepared: the action reuses their addresses, DPTs and values.
Create and name the action
Section titled “Create and name the action”- In Actions, click Add, then choose KNX in Select an action type.
- Fill in Name at the top of the form: this is the name of the whole action, required and limited to 64 characters.
Add the group addresses
Section titled “Add the group addresses”- In the entry block just below, fill in KNX associated name if needed: an optional label for this address, 64 characters maximum.
- Fill in Group Address in the three-level format, for example 1/1/1 (a fictitious example to replace). The first number ranges from 0 to 31, the second from 0 to 7 and the third from 0 to 255, separated by slashes and without spaces.
- Fill in DPT with the type actually intended for this command, or choose it from the field’s suggestion list. The accepted format consists of a main number from 1 to 999, a dot and three or four digits, such as 1.001 (a fictitious example). The field checks this format, not whether the type suits the equipment.
- Fill in Value according to the table below.
- Click ADD TO THE ACTION GROUP. A row appears under Added actions : and the count increases. Until you use this button, the address in the entry block is not part of the action.
- For another address, replace the parameters in the entry block, then click ADD TO THE ACTION GROUP again. Each row keeps its own DPT and its own value. Reread the rows to avoid an unintended duplicate addition.
| Data type | Value to set |
|---|---|
| DPT of family 1 (Boolean) | Explicitly choose True (1) or False (0) |
| DPT 16 intended for text | The appropriate text |
| Integer numeric command | An integer consistent with the DPT and the equipment; the field help may specify its meaning |
Fill in the fields from the ETS file
Section titled “Fill in the fields from the ETS file”In Group Address, type an address or a fragment of the name, scroll the suggestion list if necessary, then select the suggestion showing the right address and the right name. The selection fills in KNX associated name, Group Address and DPT; then check Value and add the row. In KNX associated name, a search using a single fragment of the name also lets you select an ETS object.
These choices do not replace the Name of the whole action. Manual entry remains possible if you know the parameters.
Correct, reorder or remove a row
Section titled “Correct, reorder or remove a row”- To correct a row already added, edit its fields directly under Added actions :, then reread its full address, its DPT and its value before saving.
- To change the order, drag the row to its new position.
- Remove immediately removes the row from the form, without confirmation. You can enter it and add it again before saving. Keep at least one row.
Set a value for each address
Section titled “Set a value for each address”In a Boolean row, --- means that no value is set: this choice is not the same as False (0). For a run with Test with default value, set a value for each address; an address without a value does not receive a default command. A value provided by an occurrence of the scenario can also apply to all the addresses: the value override guide explains this use and its limits.
Save the action and add it to a scenario
Section titled “Save the action and add it to a scenario”- Click the floppy disk at the bottom right and follow the action validation.
- After Success!, check that the action is in the list.
- To add it to a sequence and plan delays between separate commands, use the scenario form. The KNX group does not offer a per-address delay.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”Success! confirms the save; saving alone does not run the action. To check its effect, perform a manual test, which can command all the addresses of the action. Watch each device concerned, or the telegrams in the ETS group monitor.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Symptom or message | Action |
|---|---|
| No row is added | Check Group Address and DPT, then their required-field or incorrect pattern indications. |
| Issue with action. You need to add at least one action to the list. when saving | Check Added actions : and click ADD TO THE ACTION GROUP. |
For other blockages, follow the action troubleshooting. For an address that cannot be found, an unknown value or an unexpected result after these checks, contact support@can-nx.com with the context, the symptom and the steps already tried.
