Troubleshoot KNX address monitoring in Chart’nX

Chart’nXAdministratorInstaller

Chart’nX energy or water generator: rights, KNX gateway, ETS file, project cap, partial failure

Monitoring button missing, Apply missing or grayed out, address not in the ETS file, partial application or empty panels: here are the causes and actions for monitoring the KNX addresses of a Chart’nX dashboard. This troubleshooting is for administrators and installers, from the dashboard’s generator or the Wire monitored addresses window.

Start by checking the project, the dashboard and the message displayed, then choose the matching question. The normal procedure is described in the address assignment guide.

Why is the Monitoring button missing or not responding?

Section titled “Why is the Monitoring button missing or not responding?”

The button only appears in the generator of a dashboard that has already been saved, and it stays inactive while an operation is in progress.

  • If you are viewing the charts, first open the dashboard configuration.
  • If you have just created the dashboard, check that it has actually been saved, then reopen this existing dashboard in the generator.
  • During a save, a check or when a monitoring window is already open, wait for it to finish and look at the existing window.
  • If a message indicates that all the addresses are already monitored or that there is no KNX address to monitor, no list needs to open.

A Monitoring button shown in red indicates that no usable ETS file is loaded while the dashboard contains KNX meters: see the next question. If none of these cases matches or if the attempt has already failed, contact support.

A prerequisite is missing: the window shows a message that gives the cause.

MessageAction
Manager rights required to apply.Have your access checked by the administrator. If you believe you have the required rights, reopen the dashboard in your usual session; if the message persists, contact support.
No KNX gateway is configured for this project.Check the project and have the installer add the gateway. Do not choose one that belongs to another installation.
This project has no logger configuration.Have the project’s logging configuration checked by the installer or support. Changing the destination of the rows does not solve this case.
No usable ETS file is loaded on this projectHave the right ETS file of the project imported, then resume the check. If you do not have the file or the import path, contact support.
Cap exceeded — Apply is disabled.Postpone the operation and have the monitoring needs and the project capacity reviewed by the administrator or support.

The cap covers the whole project. Moving addresses to another gateway does not reduce their number, and unchecking the move boxes does not exclude them from the application. Do not delete addresses that other functions need in order to bring the counter down.

Close exits a blocked window. Once the prerequisite is resolved, reopen the dashboard and its monitoring to get a new check.

What should I do with an address not in the ETS file?

Section titled “What should I do with an address not in the ETS file?”

Have its use and its support confirmed by the installer before applying. First check how the address is written in the meter and that the ETS file matches the project: a correctly written address may nevertheless not be declared in this file. The tooltip of the mark states that such an address only works if the gateway handles it via a custom Node-RED flow.

Without this confirmation, postpone the application and contact support. Do not invent a replacement address.

What should I do if part of the application fails?

Section titled “What should I do if part of the application fails?”

The window stays open with the addresses that were not applied; the other assignments may already have succeeded. Read each message, then check all the destinations of the remaining rows again before resuming.

Reported caseAction
Address already monitored on another gatewayClose and then reopen the monitoring to refresh the list, without moving the address arbitrarily. If the conflict persists, send the message to support.
Project cap exceededHave the needs and the capacity reviewed, as for Cap exceeded — Apply is disabled.
No usable ETS file left on the projectHave the project file checked before resuming.
Couldn’t apply for one gatewayCheck the connection and the proposed destinations. Then retry only the remaining rows. If you have already tried or if the cause remains unknown, contact support.

Only Monitoring synced successfully., shown when the window closes, confirms that all the assignments were accepted. A window closed without this message, the absence of a message or the mere saving of the dashboard leave the question open.

What should I do if the dashboard is saved but monitoring could not be checked?

Section titled “What should I do if the dashboard is saved but monitoring could not be checked?”

The dashboard is saved; only the monitoring check failed, and the message says so. Check the saved dashboard, then reopen its configuration and click Monitoring. If the problem persists, contact support. Do not recreate the dashboard only to restart the check.

Why do the panels stay empty after a confirmed synchronization?

Section titled “Why do the panels stay empty after a confirmed synchronization?”

First check the period and the precision: the selected range must cover dates in which measurements are expected. If measurements are still missing over this range, contact support.

If the problem persists after these checks, write to support@can-nx.com stating the project, the dashboard, the meters concerned, the dates, the exact message and the checks or attempts already made. Do not send any access key or full personal link.
