Search for a component by name, zone or KNX address in Boss’nX

Boss’nX, Component Management page of a supervision; management actions depending on rights
The Boss’nX Component Management page finds the components of a supervision by name, location, type, datapoint label or KNX command or status feedback address. It also lets you open a component’s detail without going through the topology.
Intended for users, administrators and installers signed in to a supervision. Management actions depend on the account’s rights.
Open the list and identify a card
Section titled “Open the list and identify a card”- In the supervision concerned, choose Components in the header bar, or open Menu → Components. On a tablet and on a phone, this bar moves to the bottom of the screen, followed by Menu. See navigation in Boss’nX.
- Check the Component Management title.
- On a located card, the large title may be the name of the zone or floor. Also read the component’s name, shown below it, and its location details. Without this location-based display, the component’s name forms the card’s title.
- To open the component, click this title area or the View details icon, at the top right of the card. Check its name in the detail.
The card shows up to fifteen accessible datapoints. If View more (… hidden datapoint(s)) appears below the datapoints, this link also opens the detail. To read the values, view the other datapoints or use an authorized command, see the component guide.
Search by name or location
Section titled “Search by name or location”- If the filter panel is missing, click the slider icon next to Component Management, whose tooltip is Show filters.
- In Search, type the name of the component, its zone, its floor or its building part.
- Wait for the cards to update.
- To include the datapoint labels in the search, check Include datapoints. This option is enabled by default after a reset.
The results favor the component’s name, then its location and the labels of its datapoints. To narrow down a location, use the dedicated lists described below instead. If a detailed search shows nothing, try a shorter name.
Search for a KNX address
Section titled “Search for a KNX address”- Check Search KNX addresses only. This mode disables Include datapoints; changing the Include datapoints option exits KNX mode.
- In Search, type a command or status feedback address, complete or partial.
| Input (fictional example) | Result |
|---|---|
| 1/ | Addresses of main group 1 |
| 1/2/ | Addresses of this main and middle group |
| 1/2/3 | This address, with exact matches first |
A complete search may also return addresses starting with the same last number, for example 1/2/30 for 1/2/3. If your operation depends on an exact match, check the configured address of the component found.
In KNX mode, typing a component name does not run a name search. Uncheck Search KNX addresses only to return to that search.
Combine location, types and pending datapoints
Section titled “Combine location, types and pending datapoints”Under Location, choose if needed All buildings / parts, then All floors, then All zones. Each list offers a field to search for its item; click the result you want. You can also use the keyboard arrows then Enter, or close the list with Escape.
- Choosing or clearing a building part resets the floor and the zone to all values. Choosing or clearing a floor resets the zone to all values.
- The Clear cross removes a selection.
- A greyed-out zone list means that no zone is available in the chosen scope.
Under Component types, click one or more types: each added type widens the search. Click a type again to remove it; with no type selected, all types are allowed.
Components with pending points limits the cards to components that have at least one datapoint pending installation. This filter does not concern commands being sent. See reading pending datapoints.
The search, the location, the types and the pending datapoints option combine: a component must meet each of the active filters.
Reset the filters
Section titled “Reset the filters”Click Reset in the filter panel. The search is emptied, all locations and all types are allowed, the pending datapoints filter and KNX mode are disabled, and Include datapoints is enabled again.
Hiding the panel with the Show filters icon keeps the active filters. The choices are remembered in this browser and may still apply when you return to the list.
Act on a component you found
Section titled “Act on a component you found”Depending on the rights and prerequisites stated in each guide:
- create or edit a component;
- duplicate a component and organize its datapoints;
- delete components from the list;
- reorder datapoints in the detail;
- classify globally the datapoints without a tag with automatic tag assignment.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- Empty list or missing component: show the filters again, reset them, then check the supervision.
- Component still not found: have the administrator check its name and your account’s scope.
If this does not solve the problem, contact support@can-nx.com with the component you are looking for, the supervision and the filters already tried.
