Load shedding and solar surplus: configure thresholds in Emergy’nX

Emergy’nX: Energy Control, Load Shedding and Optimization cards of power-based control

In Energy Control, the Emergy’nX Load Shedding and Optimization scenarios control equipment by power levels. Load shedding reduces or cuts selected loads when grid import exceeds the defined thresholds; optimization activates equipment to use the solar surplus when energy is exported to the grid. Each level combines a rising threshold, a falling threshold and the commands to send.

For the installer or administrator in charge of the project’s energy control. For a rule tied to tariff periods, use the Off-Peak Hour / Peak Hour / Red Peak Hour guide instead.

  • The equipment to control and its commands are ready, as well as the thresholds validated for the installation.
  • If you need Season or Presence variants, the variants guide explains their conditions and the consequences of changing the structure.
  • The values suggested when opening the page or adding a level are starting points, not recommendations suited to your building.

In the project concerned, open Energy Control. On a small screen, first open the three-line menu. Under Power-based control, click Configure on the Load Shedding or Optimization card, then check the page title.

  1. If the page offers variants, choose the one to configure.
  2. In Threshold Levels, use the existing level, or click Add Level if the list is empty.
  3. In Level 1, fill in Threshold Up (W) and Threshold Down (W) with the established values. These fields are in watts: a known value of 8 kW is written 8,000 W (a conversion example only).
  4. In Delays (all levels), fill in Activation delay (min) and Deactivation delay (min), in whole minutes from zero. These delays apply to all levels of the variant being edited.

The interface presents the rising threshold as the activation point of the level and the falling threshold as the point where the level is withdrawn when the power drops again. In Optimization, the quantity concerned is the available grid injection. The gap between the thresholds forms a buffer zone, called hysteresis, intended to avoid repeated changes around the same value. Have consistent thresholds validated for the installation; do not count on the interface to detect every unsuitable combination.

The delay is the time during which the reading must stay above the rising threshold, or below the falling threshold, without interruption, before the level activates or is withdrawn. An empty field or 0 applies the strategy’s default duration, shown grayed out in the field:

ScenarioActivation delay (min) empty or 0Deactivation delay (min) empty or 0

  1. In the level, under Controlled Equipment, open Add equipment and select its name. Equipment already present in the level is no longer offered for that same level.
  2. For this equipment, complete Sent on rise and Sent on fall separately, according to the table below.
  3. If other steps are needed, click Add Level and fill in their thresholds, equipment and commands. The Move up and Move down arrows move a level; reread the order after moving it.

In each of the two directions, the fields are independent:

FieldChoice and configured consequence
SwitchNone, ON or OFF. None removes the switch command for this direction.
SetpointNumeric value planned for the equipment. An empty field, showing None, does not set a setpoint. 0 is a value, not a way of leaving the field empty.

Choosing None for the switch does not clear a setpoint already entered: for no command to be sent in a direction, check both fields.

If ON or OFF is grayed out, the help says Configure the equipment’s ON/OFF address first. Have the address and the value of the corresponding forced mode checked in Equipment → Control, without entering a setpoint to work around an unknown link. A charger shown as managed by optimizer may be unavailable in the selector: use its IRVE options.

Under Delays (all levels), fill in Grid draw tolerated per tariff (W) if necessary: Off-peak, Peak, Red day and Standard. These are non-negative whole watts, with a separate value for each tariff. The help describes the grid power accepted during the tariff concerned: it is used when releasing equipment activated by the surplus and in the restriction linked to peak hours or red days. 0, the default value, expresses a configured tolerance of zero, not a guarantee that there is no actual grid import at every moment. Have the values that match your objective confirmed before changing them.

The Battery priority up to (% SOC) field accepts a whole percentage from 0 to 100. Below this state of charge, the battery comes first: Optimization only turns equipment on if the battery is already charging and injection holds for the whole delay, and battery charging is not counted as surplus for the chargers. An empty field applies 40%; 0 means the battery never blocks.

  1. Click Save at the top of the page. Unsaved changes indicates changes to be saved; the back arrow at the top left returns to the cards without saving.
  2. Wait for Load Shedding thresholds saved successfully. or Optimization thresholds saved successfully., depending on the scenario.
  3. Go back to Energy Control, reopen the same card and the same variant, then reread the thresholds, delays and commands.

To check the effect, watch the equipment when the power crosses a threshold. The ACTIVE indication on a level reflects the measured power compared with the thresholds, not that a device received or applied a command.

The Delete cross next to the name removes the equipment from this level. The Remove level trash can removes the level and its list of commands. These removals take effect immediately in the form, without additional confirmation: check the target before clicking, then Save to keep the change. They do not delete the equipment from the inventory. Do not infer the physical state of a device from the removal of a rule.

  • Failed to save … thresholds.: the configuration is not saved. Keep the intended parameters and reopen the same scenario to check what was kept.
  • ACTIVE level, but no expected effect: check the right scenario and variant, the saved thresholds and delays, the commands for each direction and the equipment’s links.

If the save failure persists or the checks do not succeed, contact support@can-nx.com with the project, the scenario, the equipment, the indications displayed and the attempts already made.

French labels: the path is Pilotage énergétique → Pilotage par puissance → Délestage / Optimisation → Configurer. In Niveaux de seuil, use Ajouter un niveau, then Seuil montant (W) and Seuil descendant (W). In Temporisation (tous niveaux), the two fields are labeled exactly Tempo montée (min) and Tempo descente (min). The commands are under Équipements contrôlés → Ajouter un équipement, then Envoyé à la montée / Envoyé à la descente and Interrupteur / Consigne. Click Enregistrer at the top of the page.
