BluOS, Denon/HEOS and KNX: map commands and status feedback
Link’nXAdministratorInstaller
Link’nX web: KNX gateway table of a declared BluOS or Denon player
The gateway table of a BluOS or Denon/HEOS player in Link’nX maps the group addresses of your KNX project to its commands (play, pause, volume, mute, presets) and to its status feedback (playback status, volume, current track). A KNX push button or visualization can then control the player directly, without going through a scenario.
Intended for installers and administrators who know the project’s group addresses and DPTs. The commands in this table are separate from the settings of a Link’nX action: for a scenario command, follow the BluOS actions or the Denon actions.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The player is declared in BluOS or Denon.
- The group addresses and their DPTs are defined in the KNX project (see the tables below).
Open the player’s gateway table
Section titled “Open the player’s gateway table”- In the BluOS or Denon list, find the row of the desired player.
- Click the two opposite horizontal arrows, with the Gateway mode configuration tooltip.
- The Actions tab shows the commands. The second tab, Feedback, marked with a speech bubble, shows the status feedback.
The table applies to this player only. Its common behavior (address format, filters, saving) is described in the gateway table guide; to assign a series of addresses, follow the automatic address filling.
Map and save the addresses
Section titled “Map and save the addresses”- Choose the rows using the tables below. The table sets the names of the functions and their DPTs.
- Enter the addresses assigned in the project and check Active for the rows to be used.
- Save each tab with the floppy disk before switching to another, and wait for the confirmation.
Use distinct addresses for different associations. A binary command and a numeric state, in particular, do not have the same format.
BluOS commands
Section titled “BluOS commands”| Function | DPT | Value to send |
|---|---|---|
| Set volume | 5.001 | Level from 0 to 100% |
| Set play/pause | 1.001 | 1 requests play, 0 pause |
| Set mute | 1.001 | 1 mutes the sound, 0 restores it |
| Set shuffle | 1.001 | 1 enables, 0 disables |
| Set repeat | 5.010 | 0 for the queue, 1 for the track, 2 to disable |
| Load preset | 5.010 | Identifier from 0 to 255 of an existing preset |
| Play, Pause, Stop, Toggle play/pause, Next, Previous, Volume up, Volume down, Mute, Unmute, Next preset, Previous preset | 1.001 | Active pulse; the release value 0 does not request the opposite operation. Volume up and Volume down request a 2 dB step |
| Clear queue, Doorbell, Reboot | 1.001 | Triggered on an active value; these rows are not used to read a state. Check their consequences before testing |
Selecting an input and adding or removing a secondary player are not in this table: use the corresponding BluOS action.
BluOS feedback
Section titled “BluOS feedback”| Feedback | DPT | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Playback status | 5.010 | 0 stop, 1 play or stream, 2 pause |
| Is playing | 1.001 | On when playing or streaming, off when paused or stopped; a different format from Playback status |
| Current volume | 5.001 | Level reported by the player. Without feedback, the volume is not necessarily zero; a fixed volume mode may also not provide this level |
| Mute state, Shuffle state | 1.001 | Corresponding states |
| Repeat mode | 5.010 | 0 queue, 1 track, 2 disabled |
| Now playing | 16.001 | Track text, when available |
| Current preset | 5.010 | Reported identifier, when available |
| Is grouped | 1.001 | Indicator concerning the primary player of a group; do not use it to prove that a secondary player belongs to a group |
Feedback passes on what the player reports, with no assured continuous updating and no proof of audible sound. If there is no response, check the player’s availability and the association before interpreting a value.
Denon/HEOS commands
Section titled “Denon/HEOS commands”| Function | DPT | Value to send |
|---|---|---|
| Set volume | 5.001 | Level from 0 to 100 |
| Volume up, Volume down | 5.001 | Step value from 1 to 10; zero requests no change. This is not a binary command like BluOS’s Volume up |
| Set mute | 1.001 | 1 mutes the sound, 0 restores it |
| Set play/pause | 1.001 | 1 requests play, 0 pause |
| Toggle mute, Stop, Next, Previous | 1.001 | Active pulse; the release to 0 does not request the opposite operation |
In this Denon table, Play and Pause are combined in Set play/pause; Mute on and Mute off are replaced by Set mute. These separate commands exist in a Denon action. The table does not offer player discovery.
Denon/HEOS feedback
Section titled “Denon/HEOS feedback”| Feedback | DPT | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Current volume | 5.001 | Level reported by the player |
| Mute state | 1.001 | Reported mute state |
| Playback status | 5.010 | Have support confirm the complete mapping of states for your installation before programming logic that relies on their number |
| Now playing | 16.001 | Information about the media, when available |
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”- Go back to the list, reopen the gateway and check the addresses and Active checkboxes of each tab. The save confirmation validates the configuration, not yet the KNX exchange or the player’s reaction.
- During an authorized test, send the command from the bus, for example with a push button or the ETS group monitor, and listen to the player.
- Check the corresponding feedback separately.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- A row has disappeared: clear Type to filter… and uncheck Show only active. Also check the player’s family and the Actions or Feedback tab.
- The volume or the title does not arrive: check the active row, its address, its DPT and the player. Do not automatically replace missing information with zero, and do not interpret it as a certain stop or silence.
- The command works but the feedback is inconsistent: check that the command and the feedback use the right rows and suitable addresses. For BluOS, distinguish Is playing from the numeric Playback status. For Denon, have the Playback status values confirmed before deriving an automation from them.
- You are looking for an export of the audio list to ETS: these lists do not offer an export button. For this need and the format suited to the project, contact support.
- A feedback stays missing: do not repeat Reboot or Clear queue to make it appear.
If the associations have already been reviewed and the result remains incorrect, contact support@can-nx.com with the gateway, the player, the function, the DPT, the expected result and the tests carried out.
