Place datapoints and component cards in a Boss’nX schema
Boss’nXAdministratorInstaller
Boss’nX schema editor on a computer: Datapoints palette in the left panel
In the Boss’nX schema editor, the Datapoints palette lists the data of the supervision’s components, for example an On/Off state or a temperature. Dragged into the drawing, a data item becomes an element already bound to this datapoint; dragged by its handle, a component becomes a Component card.
Intended for administrators and installers who build the schemas of a supervision. To then choose the data of an Icon button manually, see Linked data.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Your role grants View schemas and Edit schemas; see the role capabilities.
- You are working on a computer, in a supervision opened directly or from the hypervision.
- The component and its data are already available in the supervision.
- To work on a copy of the schema, see schema management.
Open the Datapoints palette
Section titled “Open the Datapoints palette”- In the relevant supervision, open Schemas in the header bar, or Menu → Schemas.
- Hover over the schema row in the left panel, open the three dots Actions, then Edit schema. Wait for the name and the drawing to load.
- Explicitly choose the layer in which to place the new element.
- Scroll the left panel down to Datapoints, below the element tiles. Its subtitle is Drag onto the canvas. Click its title if it is collapsed.
- If names are truncated, drag the right edge of the panel to the right; its tooltip is Resize panel. Also scroll the inner list to see the lower rows.
The Search elements… field, near the tiles, searches for the types of objects to draw. To find a data item from your installation, use the field located in Datapoints.
Browse or search for a data item
Section titled “Browse or search for a data item”- Expand the levels with their chevrons: building part, floor, zone, then component. A component can also appear without an associated zone.
- Expand all opens the containers; then click the desired component to see its datapoints. Collapse all closes the containers.
- To search for a zone or a component, enter its name in Search (zone, component, address…), for example Hall (fictitious example). The matching branches are displayed with their data.
- To search only in the datapoints, check Match datapoints only; the field becomes Search (datapoint: name, DPT, address…). Then enter a datapoint name, a DPT or a known address. With this option, a zone search such as Hall may no longer return a result.
- To return to manual navigation, clear the text in the field. During a search, Expand all and Collapse all are unavailable: the results are expanded according to the search.
A datapoint row shows its name and, when they are filled in, its DPT, its unit, its R status feedback address and its W action address. Check the parent component: several components can have a datapoint named On/Off. The address shown is a configuration reference; communication with the device is checked separately, as described below.
Drag a data item into the drawing
Section titled “Drag a data item into the drawing”- In Datapoints, locate the row of the desired data item.
- Hold the mouse button down on this row, drag it to a free area of the drawing space, then release. A simple click does not place the data item.
- A new element appears, selected, and Configuration lets you review its settings. The proposed type depends on the data item and its read or write capabilities.
- Check the type, the data item and the component shown. For example, a readable and writable On/Off data item can create an Icon button; a writable numeric data item, a Numeric control; a read-only numeric measurement, a Text that displays this data item.
- Adjust the necessary settings.
These examples do not cover all datapoint types. If the result does not match the intended use, first identify the chosen data item and its use. To manually choose the binding of an Icon button, see Linked data.
Place a component card
Section titled “Place a component card”- On the component row, locate the small stacked-layers icon, to the right of the number of points.
- Drag this icon to a free area of the drawing. A Component card appears with this component selected.
- Check its name and its data.
Clicking the component name opens or closes its list of datapoints without placing anything. To place the card, start from the small icon on the right; to place a single data item, start from its datapoint row.
Find data that is already placed
Section titled “Find data that is already placed”A data item already found in the drawing remains available in the palette. Its dimmed appearance and the Placed badge do not prevent it from being dragged again: a new drop creates an additional element without moving the previous one.
Placed ×2 indicates two occurrences found for this data item, possibly in different layers. The 2 placed marker on a component counts distinct datapoints found: it is not the same counter. These indications help with locating, without forming a complete inventory of the schema’s bindings; to review the elements grouped by data item, use Used datapoints.
To find an occurrence:
- Hover over the Placed badge of a datapoint. A small list shows its occurrences, their layer and their element type.
- On the desired row, click the target icon, tooltip Locate on canvas. The small list closes and the relevant layer is displayed.
- If the layer changes but Configuration does not open, wait for it to load. Hover over the same badge again to reopen the list, then use the target of this occurrence again.
To hide these rows in the palette, check Hide placed points. Components remain visible, even when all their points are hidden; the text Placed points hidden may then replace their list. Uncheck the option to see the rows again. This option does not delete any element from the drawing.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”- Click Save and confirm, then read the summary. Saving is detailed in the schema saving guide.
- Reopen the same schema and the same layer, then check the saved element: its type, data item and component, or the name and data of the card.
- Placement binds the element to a data item. To check that the value comes in or that a command works, open the schema in view mode and watch the device.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- No result for this search: shorten or clear the search; uncheck Match datapoints only if you are looking for a zone or a component.
- Component visible but data item missing: expand this component and uncheck Hide placed points.
- No component available: check the chosen supervision and wait for it to load before concluding that a device has disappeared.
- Locate on canvas does not open Configuration, even after a second attempt: note the schema, the layer and the data item you are looking for, for support.
- Placement markers different from the expected data item: review the binding in Configuration. Do not delete or recreate an element based solely on a counter.
Other cases are covered in the Datapoints palette FAQ. If these checks fail, contact support@can-nx.com specifying the product, the schema, the layer, the component, the data item, the message displayed and the attempts already made. A screenshot without sensitive data can help.
