Add, rename or delete a Boss’nX schema layer
Boss’nXAdministratorInstaller
Boss’nX, schema editor of a supervision on a computer: Layers menu
A Boss’nX schema can contain several layers, each with its own elements, dimensions and background. In the editor, the Layers menu lets you add an empty layer, rename it or delete it; these changes remain a draft until the schema is saved.
For administrators and installers who edit the schemas of a supervision, opened directly or from a hypervision. To only view existing layers, use the Schemas page.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Your role grants View schemas and Edit schemas. Check this in the role capabilities rather than relying on the role name alone.
- You are working on a computer. If the controls remain hard to reach, use a wider screen.
- The schema already exists. A new schema starts with a first layer; to create it, follow the name and save guide.
Open the editor’s Layers menu
Section titled “Open the editor’s Layers menu”- From the Dashboard of the supervision concerned, open Schemas in the header bar, or Menu → Schemas.
- Expand the left panel if needed. Hover over the right row, open the three-dot Actions menu, then Edit schema. Wait until the expected name and content are loaded.
- At the bottom right of the editor, find the name of the active layer and, next to it, the round button with a stacked sheets icon, tooltip Layers.
- Click Layers to open the list. If a temporary message covers this button, wait for it to disappear before clicking.
In the list, clicking a layer name selects it and closes the menu. The layer shown in the editor changes, but the prepared changes still need to be saved. To find an element among the layers of the drawing, use the Issues and Used datapoints panels.
Add a layer
Section titled “Add a layer”- Open Layers.
- Click + New layer, tooltip Create a new layer.
- The menu closes and the new layer becomes active. It is empty and has a name such as Layer 2, to adapt. It takes the dimensions of the current canvas, without copying the elements of the previous layer.
- Rename it if necessary, then save the schema.
To customize this layer, see the canvas dimensions and background colors, patterns and images. For a navigation link to open this layer, see configuring its destination.
Rename a layer
Section titled “Rename a layer”- Open Layers and find the row you want.
- To the right of this row, click the pencil, tooltip Rename.
- Replace the name in the field, for example with Reception (fictitious example).
- Press Enter to apply this name to the draft. Leaving the field also applies a non-empty name; Esc cancels the current entry.
- Check the name in the list, then save the schema.
Leading and trailing spaces are removed. An empty field, or one containing only spaces, leaves the previous name in place. This menu offers no layer description: Description (optional), at the top of the left panel, concerns the schema.
Delete a layer
Section titled “Delete a layer”- Open Layers and check the name of the row to remove.
- Click the trash can to the right of this row, tooltip Delete.
- The Delete layer? box asks for confirmation and states This action cannot be undone. Click Cancel to keep the layer, or Delete to remove it.
- The layer and its elements disappear from the draft. If it was the active layer, a remaining layer is selected.
- Save the schema to apply the deletion.
The last layer of a schema cannot be deleted: its trash can is disabled. To delete the whole schema, follow the schema list actions.
If someone else modified this layer before your save, a conflict window can offer Keep the server version or Delete anyway: follow choosing conflicting versions. The deletion is only saved after a successful save, even if the layer has already disappeared from the draft.
Save the changes
Section titled “Save the changes”- Click Save in the left panel.
- Review Save schema?, then confirm with Save. If warnings or conflicts appear, read them before continuing.
- During Saving in progress, do not close or refresh the page. Wait for the result and check the layer summary.
To leave without applying the changes still pending, use the editor exit choices. Leave without saving does not bring back a layer whose deletion has already been saved.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”- Open Schemas in the header bar or in the Menu, then explicitly choose the schema in the left panel.
- Expand its layers with the chevron to the left of its name, then check the name and presence of the layer you want.
- To check again in the editor, open Actions → Edit schema on the right row, wait for it to load, then click Layers at the bottom right.
The Layers button belongs to the editor; on the viewing page, the layers appear under the schema name, in the left panel.
