Boss’nX schema editor on a computer: Datapoints palette and data placement
Points not shown after Expand all, zone not found in the search, Placed badge, card that does not appear, unexpected element type: here are the answers to common questions about placing data in the Boss’nX schema editor, for administrators and installers on a computer. The full procedure is described in the Datapoints palette guide.
Where do I find the data to drag into my schema?
Section titled “Where do I find the data to drag into my schema?”In the Datapoints palette, below the tiles of the left panel. Open Schemas in the header bar or in the Menu, then Actions → Edit schema on the desired row. Wait for loading, then scroll the left panel down to Datapoints. Choose the right layer before dropping. The Search elements… field, near the tiles, searches for object types; the data search is in Datapoints.
Why doesn’t Expand all show the components’ points?
Section titled “Why doesn’t Expand all show the components’ points?”In the left palette, Expand all only opens the containers. Then click the desired component to expand its datapoints. If its points are still missing, uncheck Hide placed points. If that fails, contact support with the component and these attempts.
Why is Expand all grayed out?
Section titled “Why is Expand all grayed out?”A search is in progress in the Datapoints palette: expansion then follows the results and this button is unavailable. Clear the text in the field to resume manual expansion. This rule applies to the left palette; the Linked data selector in Configuration works in its own way, described in the Linked data guide.
Why does a zone disappear when I check Match datapoints only?
Section titled “Why does a zone disappear when I check Match datapoints only?”This option ignores the names of zones and components. Uncheck it to search for a zone, for example Hall, or keep it checked and enter the name of a datapoint, its DPT or a known address. Hall is a fictitious example here, to be replaced by your own reference.
Can I place a faded datapoint already marked Placed again?
Section titled “Can I place a faded datapoint already marked Placed again?”Yes, its row can still be dragged. Drag it to a free area of the desired layer: this creates another element using this data item, and the first one stays in place. The Placed ×2 badge may then indicate two occurrences; this is not necessarily an unwanted duplicate.
Why do components remain visible with Hide placed points?
Section titled “Why do components remain visible with Hide placed points?”The option hides the rows of datapoints already found, but keeps their components. Placed points hidden may appear when there is no row left to show. Uncheck the option to see the data again. It deletes neither data nor drawing elements.
Do 2 placed on a component and Placed ×2 on a data item mean the same thing?
Section titled “Do 2 placed on a component and Placed ×2 on a data item mean the same thing?”No. The component marker counts distinct datapoints found; the marker of a data item counts its occurrences in the drawing. These counters are locating aids, not a complete check of all bindings. To see the elements grouped by data item, see Used datapoints.
What if Locate on canvas opens the other layer without Configuration?
Section titled “What if Locate on canvas opens the other layer without Configuration?”Wait for the layer to load, then hover over the same Placed badge again. In the reopened list, click the Locate on canvas target of this occurrence again. If these two attempts remain unsuccessful, contact support specifying the schema, the layer and the data item.
Why does no card appear when I click a component?
Section titled “Why does no card appear when I click a component?”Clicking its name expands or collapses its points. To place a Component card, drag the small stacked-layers icon, to the right of its row, into a free area of the drawing. For a single data item, drag its datapoint row. Check the result, then save.
Why does one data item create a text and another a button?
Section titled “Why does one data item create a text and another a button?”The proposed type depends on the data item and its read or write capabilities. A read-only numeric measurement can create a Text, while a readable and writable On/Off state can create an Icon button. Check the data item and the component in Configuration, then check the real device in view mode after saving.
How do I read names that are cut off in the palette?
Section titled “How do I read names that are cut off in the palette?”Drag the right edge of the panel to the right, tooltip Resize panel, then scroll the inner list if necessary. Check the parent component before choosing a datapoint with a common name, such as On/Off. If the choice remains ambiguous, contact support rather than making random changes.
What if a data item is still missing after removing the filters?
Section titled “What if a data item is still missing after removing the filters?”Check the supervision and the name searched for, then wait for loading: a missing row alone is not enough to conclude that a device has been deleted. If the data item is still missing, contact support with the product, the component, the data item, the message displayed and the filters already tried.
Contact support
Section titled “Contact support”If the problem persists after these checks, write to support@can-nx.com with the product (Boss’nX), the schema, the layer, the component, the data item you are looking for, the message displayed and the attempts or filters already tried. A screenshot without sensitive data can help.
