Period, aggregation and chart reading in Boss’nX analytics

Boss’nX, building supervision: Analytics page, Trends tab, after selecting the datapoints

In the Trends tab of the Boss’nX Analytics page, the period, the precision and the aggregation determine the values requested; the chart type, the legend, the zoom and the configuration only change how they are presented. Start by selecting the datapoints to view. The times displayed follow the browser’s local time zone.

  1. In the settings bar, under Time range, click the date pill with a calendar icon, Date range.
  2. Choose Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, This month or Last month. For a custom range, choose the start date, then the end date in the calendar.
  3. The calendar closes after this choice. To specify the times, reopen the pill and fill in Start time and End time. Choosing dates resets the start and end times to those of the full day.
  4. Enter the hour, from 0 to 23, and the minutes, from 0 to 59, in their respective fields: times are entered in 24-hour format.
  5. Close the calendar with Esc or a click outside. This panel has no Save button; closing it keeps the values chosen.
  6. Click Generate chart.

The end must be strictly later than the start. If Invalid time range. appears, correct the bounds and generate again. An old chart that remains visible does not validate the dates you have just entered.

On a normal opening, the page offers today. Entering from a component’s history may offer the seven calendar days ending today, which do not necessarily match the last 168 rolling hours.

Previous period and Next period, to the right of the Chart preview title, move the period and request the data directly. On a small screen, only their arrows are shown. The shift uses the duration of the applied period, with a minimum of one day: to compare two consecutive one-hour slots, choose their times in the calendar.

Next period may be grayed out when you have reached the current period. For a precise search, use the calendar and check the period of the resulting chart.

Set the precision, the aggregation and the chart type

Query precisionSettings barKeep Auto or choose a value in Minutes, Hours, Days or Weeks, then regenerate. Unavailable values are grayed out; their hint explains the restriction related to the period.
AggregationSettings barChoose Average, Minimum or Maximum depending on the comparison you need, then regenerate. This choice sends no command to the device.
Chart typeIcons to the right of the Chart preview titleChoose Line, Bar or Scatter to change the presentation, without a new data request.

If a precision becomes unavailable after a change of period, Auto is selected and a message says so: The “…” precision is unavailable for this time range: Auto has been selected. Generate the chart to apply this change. Check the precision before generating. A finer precision does not add measurements that the sensor did not record.

  • Compare the names, units and dates of the series. Hover over the chart to read the values and their times.
  • The legend hides or shows a series again; a click on a series can isolate it. These actions change the view without removing data from the CSV file.
  • The zoom bar, under the chart, shows part of the period. Zooming does not replace the period loaded for the export.
  • On a curve with intervals without data, Connect data gaps may appear. Checking it connects the lines without creating any missing measurement. State series may remain continuous between two changes.
  • A line extended to the present moment repeats the last known value. Its indication keeps the timestamp of that value, not that of a new sample.

The Configuration gear icon, to the right of the Chart preview title, opens the presentation settings. Appliquer (Apply) keeps your settings; Annuler (Cancel) or the cross discards them.

To show the KNX group addresses in the datapoint list, the selected datapoints and the legend, check Show technical addresses in this panel. The identifiers of datapoints from other protocols do not become KNX addresses as a result.

  • Under the Chart preview title, a line shows the applied period, aggregation and precision; in Auto, it states the step used, for example “Auto (1 hour)”. The date pill, for its part, shows what the next generation will request.
  • Settings changed · generate to apply them flags a setting not yet applied: click Generate chart.

Why did the chart not change after I chose Yesterday?

Section titled “Why did the chart not change after I chose Yesterday?”

The choice in the calendar alone does not replace the data displayed. Click Generate chart, then check the period shown under Chart preview.

The CSV uses UTC timestamps, while the interface shows local times. See the export notes before concluding that the measurements are shifted.

Does connecting data gaps recover the missing measurements?

Section titled “Does connecting data gaps recover the missing measurements?”

No: it is a presentation choice. Check the period and the datapoint; if the expected measurements are still missing, contact support with the exact time slot.

Write to support@can-nx.com if expected measurements are still missing, giving the exact time slot and the attempts made, or if an option described here cannot be found, giving the building, the open view and the label you are looking for. A screenshot without sensitive data can help.
