Shelly and KNX: status feedback, measurements and troubleshooting

Link’nX web: feedback tab of the KNX gateway table of a declared Shelly device
The second tab of the Shelly gateway table in Link’nX maps KNX group addresses to the device’s states and measurements: relay and light state, power, energy, cover position, brightness and temperature. A KNX display or visualization can then read the state of a relay or the energy it measures.
Intended for the installer or administrator of the project, including to troubleshoot a missing command or measurement.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- The device is declared in Link’nX and its commands are mapped to KNX.
- The device’s model, mode and channels are known. The table offers functions common to every model: your device does not necessarily have the corresponding channels, modes or sensors.
- For a Gen1 device, the mapping of relay measurements is confirmed for its mode and model. For a Gen1 cover or dimmer, also have the feedback validated by support.
Map a status feedback
Section titled “Map a status feedback”- In Smart Home → Shelly, click the two arrows, Gateway mode configuration, on the right device’s row.
- Open the second tab, marked with a speech bubble. It shows the feedback.
- Choose the function and the channel using the table below.
- Fill in the assigned KNX Address and check Active. Use a feedback address separate from the command address when the project plan provides for it, and only one state per mapping.
- Save with the floppy disk and wait for Données sauvegardées avec succès ! (Data saved successfully!).
| Feedback offered | DPT | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Relay 0 to 3 — state | 1.001 | 1 for on, 0 for off, when a state is available |
| Relay 0 to 3 — active power | 14.056 | Power in W, if the channel measures it |
| Relay 0 to 3 — energy | 13.010 | Energy in Wh, not kWh: 1,000 Wh equal 1 kWh |
| Cover 0 or 1 — position state | 5.001 | KNX percentage: 0 = open, 100 = closed, when the position is available |
| Light 0 or 1 — state | 1.001 | 1 for on, 0 for off |
| Light 0 or 1 — brightness state | 5.001 | Brightness as a percentage from 0 to 100, with no inversion of direction |
| Device temperature | 9.001 | Temperature of the device in °C if available, not to be presented as the room’s ambient temperature |
The table includes one row per number, i.e. 19 feedback rows, whatever the model. Do not transpose these rows to an EM/3EM meter, to an aggregated cover measurement or to a device with a different channel organization.
Interpret the values read
Section titled “Interpret the values read”- Feedback answers the KNX readings provided by the installation: the table does not display real-time measurements, and feedback is not necessarily sent after each command.
- An absence of response is neither a zero value nor an off state. Leave the measurement missing rather than replacing it with an invented value.
- A cover’s movement command and its position measurement are separate: a cover can move without its position being available.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”Return to the list and reopen the table to check the saved row. Then send a read request to the feedback address, for example with the ETS group monitor, and compare the value received with the device’s actual state.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- No command and no feedback: check the project, the gateway and the device row, then the IP, the port and the required local credentials. Then check that the address and DPT match the plan, that the row is active and that the save has been reviewed. Keep authentication enabled: disabling it does not resolve a failure.
- One channel works, another does not: check that this number and mode exist on this model. The rows form a fixed catalog, not a channel discovery. Do not try the other outputs at random on an installation.
- The cover moves but the position is missing: have its calibration and the availability of the position confirmed for this model. Keep the KNX convention described here, 0 for open and 100 for closed, rather than inverting it to mask an unexplained measurement.
- The energy seems a thousand times too high: first check the unit of the display. The energy row is in Wh; set the display accordingly instead of modifying the meter or the DPT.
- The relay works but the power or temperature is missing: have it confirmed that the channel and the model provide this measurement. Each feedback depends on the hardware, regardless of the commands that work.
- A toggle cancels itself out or the lamp does not switch on with its brightness: follow the difference between the Shelly commands.
Contact support
Section titled “Contact support”If the checks are already done or if the model remains uncertain, write to support@can-nx.com with: Link’nX — Shelly, the model, generation and mode, the project and gateway, the function, channel and DPT, the expected result and the symptom, and the points already checked (IP, port, required credentials, active mapping, save and reading). Add the displayed message and a masked screenshot if useful, but no password. Also ask support whether a temperature missing on a device without a corresponding relay function, or a dedicated sensor, can be supported.
French labels: Relais 0 — état, Relais 0 — puissance active, Relais 0 — énergie, Volet 0 — état de position, Lumière 0 — état, Lumière 0 — état de luminosité, Température de l’appareil. The units and the direction of the percentages remain the same.
