Boss’nX alarm rules: threshold, boolean or list of values

Boss’nXAdministratorInstaller

Boss’nX, supervision: Generic definition panel of the Alarm rules page, Create view

On the Alarm rules page in Boss’nX, the Generic definition panel sets the condition applied to all the selected KNX datapoints: threshold crossing, state of a boolean datapoint or list of values, with severity, delays and options. The values to monitor and their limits must match the datapoints and the installation concerned.

Intended for the administrator or installer authorized to manage components, as a complement to creating alarms by tag. To compare two datapoints, follow the Comparison procedure instead.

  • In Alarm rules, the source tag and the Create view are chosen.
  • The trigger type is chosen before its parameters. To change the type after preparing a definition, leave the page before any confirmation, reopen it and start again with the type you want. Then check the selected boxes again.
  1. Under Trigger type, choose Threshold.
  2. Under Severity, choose High, Medium or Low. High is offered at first.
  3. Fill in Low threshold, High threshold, or both: at least one bound is required.
  4. Fill in Hysteresis according to the parameters planned for the monitoring.
  5. Check the eligible datapoints on the right. A boolean datapoint is reported as incompatible with this mode.
  6. Continue with the delays, options and confirmation described below.

A low threshold targets values below the bound, a high threshold those above it. With two bounds, check that they correctly delimit the expected range. Fictional example: a temperature measurement with High threshold: 80. This example is not a recommended value for your installation.

  1. In a new preparation, choose Boolean (1/0).
  2. Check the severity and keep Trigger on: 1 (active) for this procedure.
  3. Check the datapoints offered: this mode concerns boolean KNX datapoints, with a DPT of family 1. The others are shown as incompatible.
  4. Prepare the delays, options, names and tags, then check the condition in Confirm creation before sending.

This setup triggers the alarm on one and provides for the reset on zero. For monitoring that must trigger on 0 (inactive) or reset on another condition, have support specify the appropriate setting before the creation.

  1. In a new preparation, choose Values.
  2. Prepare the complete list of Trigger values. Separate the numbers with a comma; for a decimal number, use a period. Fictional example: 1.5, 2.
  3. Insert the complete list into the field, then reread what is displayed. Avoid isolated separators and a trailing comma.
  4. Fill in the Reset values planned for returning to the normal state in the same way. Always check the displayed content, including after clearing the field.
  5. Check the severity, the selected datapoints and the other options before confirming.

For a datapoint with a boolean DPT, use values consistent with its one or zero state. If you do not know the appropriate reset values, ask support for them before creating the batch.

  • Trigger delay (min) and Reset delay (min) are expressed in minutes. Fill in the delays planned for the installation and check the unit before confirming.
  • Monitor missing signal: once the box is checked, fill in the delay in minutes in the field that appears below it. It must be greater than zero. This option complements the chosen trigger type: its condition still has to be filled in.
  • Pause notifications prepares the new datapoints with their notifications in standby. Check this option only if this suspension is wanted. The standby guide explains the viewing and reactivation available from the history.

Then fill in Alarm names and Tag of created alarms, and follow the confirmation and reading of the report. In Confirm creation, compare the previewed values and condition with your intention. If they differ, use Back before sending.

Set at least one threshold, low or high.Threshold mode without a bound: fill in Low threshold, High threshold or both.
Add at least one trigger value.Values mode without a list: insert the prepared Trigger values.
Set the missing-signal delay.Monitor missing signal is checked without a delay greater than zero: fill it in or uncheck the option.
Datapoint shown as incompatibleCheck its DPT and the chosen trigger type: Threshold refuses boolean datapoints, Boolean (1/0) only accepts DPTs of family 1. Do not change the DPT to make the datapoint eligible.

If a condition remains uncertain, contact support@can-nx.com with the fields filled in and the expected result.
