Choose the KNX value sent by a Link’nX function based on its DPT

Link’nX web: Functions, hysteresis and presence detection output values
A Link’nX function sends a value to its target group address: the low or high threshold value for a hysteresis, the timeout value for a presence detection. The format of this value depends on the target DPT: binary, number or short text.
Intended for installers and administrators who know the DPT and the command of the target address. The form checks the format of the value, not its effect: choose it according to the command expected by the equipment.
Open the value fields
Section titled “Open the value fields”- Open Functions, then the function’s Edit pencil, or prepare it from Add.
- First fill in the target DPT in the hysteresis form or the presence detection form.
- For Hysteresis, use Low threshold output value and High threshold output value. For Presence detection, use the field after Then send the value in Timeout action sequence.
Enter the value according to the target DPT
Section titled “Enter the value according to the target DPT”| Target DPT | Value to enter |
|---|---|
| Family 1 (binary) | Explicitly choose 0 (false) or 1 (true) in the list |
| Numeric | Enter the appropriate number, with a dot for decimals, for example 18.5; a negative value only if the DPT and the equipment’s command provide for it |
| 16.000 or 16.001 (text) | Enter a short text in ASCII letters, 14 characters maximum, for example Idle |
18.5 and Idle are fictitious examples.
For text, the procedure covers text that is neither a number nor one of the words true or false. For a text made of digits that must be kept exactly, a longer text or other characters, contact support with the format you need, without sending any secret data.
Each value is required; zero is a filled-in value, different from an empty field. The output fields are separate from the source measurement thresholds and from the timer delay.
Choosing a binary DPT can adapt the fields and their values: check all the outputs after each DPT change.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”- Reread the values, the target DPT and the destination in Runtime interpretation.
- Check the intended state, Enabled or Disabled, then click Save or Update.
- Wait for the confirmation and check the values on the function card in the list.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- Binary hysteresis source or value type not covered here: contact support before commissioning.
- Value not kept as expected or unexpected result: go back over the function checks, then write to support@can-nx.com with the context, the DPT, the expected result and the tests already made.
