Create, edit or delete a custom datapoint tag in Boss’nX

Boss’nX: Menu → Datapoint tags of a supervision, with the component management right

In Boss’nX, tags classify the datapoints of a supervision. The project’s custom tags complement the standard catalog: you create their entry (name, category, description), edit it or delete it from Menu → Datapoint tags. Standard entries, marked Read-only, offer neither editing nor deletion.

Intended for the administrator or installer who has the component management right. The entry alone does not assign the tag to any datapoint: for that, then follow datapoint assignment.

  1. Open Menu → Datapoint tags and check the Datapoint tags title. The catalog’s search and filters are described in viewing tags.
  2. Click Create tag. The New tag window opens.
  3. Fill in Tag name, 100 characters maximum. Choose a name that is understandable and distinct from those already present.
  4. Choose Category. Personnalisé (custom) is offered by default; you can also choose a standard category, such as Températures, États or Mesures.
  5. If useful, fill in Description (optional), 500 characters maximum.
  6. Click Create and wait for the window to close. The detail of the created tag is selected.

Fictional example: North workshop measurement, category Mesures, description Measurements monitored in the north workshop. To give it to datapoints, then use Assign datapoints in the tag’s detail.

  1. Select the tag in the list and check the title of its detail.
  2. Click Edit. The Edit tag window opens.
  3. Adjust Tag name, Category or Description (optional), with the same limits as at creation. To remove the description, empty this field.
  4. Click Save.

The entry is not used to choose which datapoints carry the tag: to change its members, use targeted assignment.

When creating as when editing, Cancel, Escape or a click on the dimmed background closes the window without saving, as long as you have not submitted. During the save, these closing actions are suspended: wait for the result.

  1. In the tag’s detail, check Assigned datapoints and Linked role rules. If the rules are unavailable or if the consequences remain uncertain, contact support before continuing.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. In Delete tag ”…”?, check the name. If uses are listed, read Affected datapoints (…) and Affected rules (…), scrolling through the lists if needed.
  4. Click Delete tag to confirm, or Cancel to keep the entry.
  5. Wait for the window to close.

Deleting the entry does not remove the tag from the datapoints or the rules that reference it: the window warns that these references keep working, but without a label or category. To remove an assignment, use the removal procedure on the datapoints. Even if no use is displayed, check the consequences on the project’s rules.

This path offers no restore button. During the deletion, wait for the result: Cancel, Escape and the dimmed background do not close the window while the request is in progress.

  • After a creation or an edit, check the name, category and description in the detail, then the associated datapoints.
  • After a deletion, check that the entry has disappeared from the project catalog.
