Zoom, pan and undo in the Boss’nX schema editor
Boss’nXAdministratorInstaller
Boss’nX, schema editor on a computer: bottom bar, zoom, Hand tool and history
The bottom bar of the Boss’nX schema editor groups the navigation commands: fit the drawing to the screen, zoom from 25% to 200%, recenter the view, move it with the Hand tool, undo or redo a change. The view commands do not change the width and height of the schema.
Intended for administrators and installers who edit a schema on a computer. For a drawing opened in view mode, use the Schemas page instead. To change the width and height of the drawing, see the canvas dimensions.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Your role has the schema viewing and editing capabilities; see the role rights.
- The schema is open in the editor: Schemas, in the header bar or the Menu, then, on the right schema, Actions → Edit schema. Wait for its name and drawing to load.
Find the drawing and set the zoom
Section titled “Find the drawing and set the zoom”- In the bottom bar, click the framing icon, tooltip Fit to screen. The zoom and framing adjust to show the canvas in the available space.
- Adjust the view with the magnifiers Zoom in (Ctrl + wheel up) and Zoom out (Ctrl + wheel down). The percentage shows the current zoom; the buttons change it in steps of 10, between 25% and 200%.
- To return to 100%, click the percentage, tooltip Reset zoom to 100%.
- To recenter the view without changing the percentage, click the four-arrow icon, tooltip Center canvas (Space + drag, or wheel to pan).
Returning to 100% sets the zoom, recentering sets the position of the view and Fit to screen acts on both.
Move the view with the Hand tool
Section titled “Move the view with the Hand tool”- On the left of the bottom bar, open the small chevron next to the current tool, labeled Choose tool.
- Choose Hand, then click and hold the left button on an empty area of the canvas and drag to move the view.
- To return to the usual tool, reopen the choice and select Move.
Outside an input field, H selects Hand and V selects Move. Holding Space also moves the view temporarily; release the key to return to the previous tool. If a field or a control uses this key, leave that control before using the shortcut.
The Hand tool is for navigation while editing. After reopening the editor, check the current tool: the previous choice is not necessarily kept.
Undo or redo a change
Section titled “Undo or redo a change”- In the bottom bar, find the two curved arrows near the dimensions.
- Click Undo (Ctrl+Z) to return to the previous available state, for example before a resize.
- Click Redo (Ctrl+Y) to redo the undone change.
- On the keyboard, use Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z outside an input field. If you are editing text, finish that entry before acting on the drawing.
- To keep the result obtained, save the schema following the save procedure.
A new change after Undo can replace the actions that Redo was offering. These commands do not cover every field: for the name or description of the schema, the grid step or the opacity of an image, explicitly set the desired value again in the control concerned.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”- After a zoom, a recenter or a pan, check that the width and height shown in the bottom bar are unchanged.
- After Undo or Redo, check the drawing and its dimensions.
- An editing history is not a backup: it cannot ensure recovery after leaving and reopening the editor. Save the schema to keep the result, then reopen it to check it.
- Undo in the drawing does not automatically restore a version already saved for other users.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- Undo or Redo button grayed out: no corresponding action is available at that moment.
- Conflict resolution pending: as long as the Resolve conflicts window is waiting for a choice, even when collapsed, Undo and Redo are blocked, buttons and shortcuts alike. Finish or cancel that step following the conflicts guide.
- Shortcut with no effect: leave the input field or the current control, then try again.
If the expected result cannot be found, contact support@can-nx.com, stating the action taken, the result observed and the attempts already made, without assuming that a restoration is possible.
