Delete a Boss’nX role and reassign its accounts to another role

In Boss’nX, deleting a role requires reassigning all its accounts to a replacement role, whose permissions they receive immediately. Deletion is permanent and can change the rights of every associated account: this procedure offers no way to restore the deleted role.

Intended for the administrator or installer authorized to manage roles.

Before you start

• The role to delete is neither a System role nor a Default role: for these roles, the Remove action is absent.
• A replacement role suited to the affected accounts exists. Deprecated roles are not offered as replacements. If no role fits, create it first.

Prepare the replacement

1. In the relevant supervision, open Menu → Users, Roles tab, then click Refresh.
2. Review the permissions of the role to delete and of the role that will replace it, including their scope and their alarm notifications.
3. Locate Remove on the row of the role to delete.

Review the confirmation window

1. Click Remove for the chosen role.
2. Check the label in Delete role ”…”.
3. If accounts use this role, read their full list, scrolling through it if necessary. The reassignment applies to every listed account: the window offers no individual selection.
4. In Move them to:, choose the replacement role. A choice may be prefilled, for example viewer: always check it, because this name says nothing about the permissions currently configured for that role.
5. If no account uses the role, the window shows No accounts use this role. The role will be permanently deleted. and offers no replacement.

To keep the role, click Cancel or the Close cross, press Escape or click outside the window before submitting.

Keep your own role management rights

You will lose your ability to manage roles appears when your own account would be part of the reassignment to a role without that capability. In that case, choose Cancel and have another administrator prepare the operation.

The window still lets you continue: the button becomes Continue and reassign … account(s) (lock myself out). After this confirmation, you cannot revert without an administrator’s intervention.

Delete the role and reassign the accounts

1. Click Delete and reassign … account(s), or Delete role when no account is associated.
2. Wait for the operation to finish. While submitting, the role choice and the closing controls are unavailable.
3. Wait for the Role deleted message. The role list reloads.

Check the result

1. Check that the role is absent from the reloaded list.
2. Open the Users tab and check the role of each affected account.
3. Check that their access and notifications remain suitable after the reassignment.

Role deleted confirms that the role is deleted; the rights each account received are checked in Users. If an account keeps an unknown role, loses a necessary access or receives excessive access, have the administrator change the account’s role.

Troubleshooting

Message or symptom	Action
Cannot delete: account list failed to load. Refresh the page and try again.	Deletion is blocked until the accounts are loaded. Click Refresh or reload the page, then try again. A missing account counter does not mean zero accounts.
Operation refused, window still open	The window may stay open with the list of accounts and the chosen role. Read the message and check the choice again; do not simply replace the role with a more privileged one to force the operation. You can cancel once the submission is complete.
Interrupted response or ambiguous final state	Close the window, then reload the roles and accounts before any new attempt.
