Add KNX group addresses in bulk to a Boss’nX component

Boss’nX on a computer: Bulk add points window of the component editor
The Bulk add points window of the Boss’nX component editor creates datapoints in one go from the KNX group addresses already available in Boss, each one for read or write, up to 100 per addition.
This path is for an administrator or installer, on a computer. It does not perform the initial import of a KNX project file, and it is separate from the KNX bus scan in Network health, which detects physical devices to monitor.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Your role has Manage components and you are working in the relevant supervision.
- The KNX project addresses are available in Boss. Otherwise, start by importing a KNX project file.
- The installer has confirmed the addresses to use and the Gateway intended for the component.
Open the KNX bulk add
Section titled “Open the KNX bulk add”- Open Components in your bar or through Menu → Components, then the Edit component pencil. For a new component, use Add component and fill in its general settings according to the common form.
- Check the Gateway intended for the component.
- Under the datapoints, click Import, or its small arrow on the right, then choose KNX. The Bulk add points window opens.
Select addresses one by one
Section titled “Select addresses one by one”- Expand the address groups with their chevron, for example
1/*then1/0/*, fictitious examples. You can also use Search by address (e.g., 1/2/3) or name…: the search shows the results as a list. - On each address you want, check the name and the DPT.
- Click Read or Write according to its use. The choice selects the address with this mode. In this window, an address is added with only one of these modes; the datapoint can then be completed in the editor.
- Check the checked boxes and the counter. Clicking the mode already selected again removes the address from the selection; a checked box can also be unchecked.
An address’s plain checkbox suggests Read when its read indication is present, otherwise Write. Choose the confirmed mode rather than automatically keeping this suggestion: the buttons are configuration choices and do not tell you whether the device accepts a command.
Already used indicates that the address already appears in the component’s datapoints, for reading or command. In this KNX import, this indication does not prevent you from selecting it: check the existing use before creating another datapoint with the same address.
Select a whole group
Section titled “Select a whole group”- On a group’s header, Read or Write selects the addresses of this group in the chosen mode. The tooltips are Select all as read and Select all as write. Check the group’s scope and the counter before confirming.
- The checkbox of an unselected group suggests read; if the group’s selection is complete or partial, it removes it.
- A group’s small cross, Deselect all, removes the selections of that group. Clear all resets the entire selection.
Respect the limit and link the datapoints
Section titled “Respect the limit and link the datapoints”- The maximum is 100 datapoints per addition. If Limit of 100 reached appears, remove selections or proceed in several additions.
- From two selections onward, Link points together offers to group how they are presented. This grouping does not send a common command to the datapoints. See linking and unlinking datapoints.
Add the datapoints and save the component
Section titled “Add the datapoints and save the component”- Click Add N point(s), where N is the number selected. The window closes and the new datapoints appear in the form. The component is not saved yet.
- Review the labels, DPTs, addresses and Cmd / Feedback, then the gateway and any groups. To complete the status feedbacks or commands, see KNX datapoints and their presentation.
- Leave the last field, then click Create or Save.
To back out: Cancel or the cross at the top right closes the selection without adding its datapoints. After adding them to the form, remove a datapoint added by mistake with its trash can, then save. Back before saving discards the component’s pending changes; it does not cancel a previous save.
Check the result
Section titled “Check the result”- After returning to the original page, reopen the component and check the datapoints that were kept.
- Then check reading and commands for these datapoints on the installation: their presence does not certify communication with the hardware.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| KNX choice grayed out with No KNX address available | Check the supervision and that the expected KNX project is present. Choosing a gateway does not by itself provide a list of addresses. To prepare the initial list, import the KNX project file. |
| No results | Clear the search with its small cross, then try part of the name or a confirmed address. A search with no results does not indicate a KNX failure. |
| The counter keeps datapoints after a search | Changing the search does not empty the selection. Review the total, clear the filter to see the addresses again, or use Clear all to start over. |
| The Add button is grayed out | Select at least one address and wait for any operation in progress to finish. |
| Error after Create / Save | Follow the common form troubleshooting, without immediately creating a duplicate. |
Contact support
Section titled “Contact support”If the confirmed project remains unavailable after its import, write to support@can-nx.com with the supervision, the component, the message and the tests already done.
