--- title: KNX energy metering, load shedding and solar with Can’nX description: Measure KNX and Modbus consumption, track flows and self-consumption, and manage load shedding, solar surplus and off-peak hours with Can’nX. canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/usages/energie/ language: en --- # KNX energy metering, load shedding and solar with Can’nX Can’nX measures and manages the energy of a KNX building with four applications. Emergy’nX shows instantaneous flows (solar, battery, grid, building) and controls equipment: load shedding, solar surplus, off-peak hours or Tempo days. Chart’nX presents the history of KNX or Modbus meters in dashboards and exports the measurements. Boss’nX brings these dashboards into supervision and hypervision, and Link’nX connects an Atmoce photovoltaic and battery gateway to the bus. ## Solutions for your need | Need | Application | Guide | | --- | --- | --- | | Read the flows, self-consumption and the consumption breakdown | Emergy’nX, **Dashboard** | [Read flows and consumption](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-dashboard/) | | Force a device on or off, then return to automatic | Emergy’nX, **Dashboard → Equip.** | [Choose Auto, OFF or ON](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-control/) | | Declare a device and its KNX measurements and commands | Emergy’nX, **Equipment** | [Configure KNX measurements and commands](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-equipment-knx/) | | Shed loads or use the solar surplus according to power thresholds | Emergy’nX, **Energy Control** | [Load shedding and solar surplus](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-energy-thresholds/) | | Control devices during off-peak, peak or red peak hours | Emergy’nX, **Energy Control** | [Tariff rules](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-tariff-control/) | | Describe the grid connection, tariff, solar production and battery | Emergy’nX, **Building Config** | [Grid and tariffs](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-building-network/), [production and battery](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-building-production-storage/) | | Configure the meters of an energy dashboard | Chart’nX, **Configure** | [Main meters](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-meters/) | | Declare a Modbus gateway and registers, test a reading | Chart’nX, **Modbus catalog** | [Modbus configuration](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-config/), [test read](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-test/) | | Choose the chart period and export measurements to CSV | Chart’nX, viewing | [Period and precision](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-period/), [export](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-export/) | | Show the energy breakdown in a supervision or a hypervision | Boss’nX, **Dashboard** or **Hypervision dashboard** | [Energy widget](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-energy-config/), [hypervision energy](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-hypervision-energy/) | | Plot and export to CSV the measurements of tracked datapoints | Boss’nX, **Analytics**, **Trends** tab | [View measurements](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-analytics-consult/) | | Connect an Atmoce PV and battery gateway to KNX | Link’nX | [Atmoce commands and measurements](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-atmoce-knx/) | Chart’nX opens from Emergy’nX ([access](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-open-emergy/)) or from **Analyses** in Boss’nX ([access](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-open-boss/)); dashboards are configured through the Emergy’nX entry point. After saving, handle [KNX address monitoring](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-monitoring/) if it is offered. ## Good to know - The power values on the Emergy’nX dashboard are instantaneous, in W or kW. For energy in kWh over a period, use Chart’nX. - Load shedding and optimization thresholds are in watts, delays in minutes. The gap between the rising and falling thresholds forms a hysteresis. - Grid measurement: with the **Meter type** **1 signed reading**, active power is positive for consumption and negative for export; **2 readings (one per direction)** separate production and consumption. Each measurement is read over KNX or Modbus. - Solar production and the battery are read through the bus, over KNX or Modbus, or directly from a Huawei inverter over Modbus TCP. - In Chart’nX, **Index** suits a cumulative meter and **Not indexed** a period value; the **Custom Factor** multiplies the received value. - A missing value or a missing site does not mean zero consumption.
