# Somfy action in Link’nX: open, close or position a shutter

Context: Link’nX web: Actions form, Somfy type, for a declared box and its saved devices

A Somfy action in Link’nX prepares a command for a device of a Somfy box, for example a shutter or a blind: open, close, stop, “my” position, or a closure, deployment or orientation percentage. A scenario then runs this action.

Intended for administrators and installers. To control the device from a KNX push button, use the [Somfy KNX gateway](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-somfy-knx/) instead; to react to a device status, use [Somfy triggers](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-somfy-triggers/). ## Before you start

- The box is [declared and its discovered devices are saved](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-somfy-devices/) in the right gateway.

## Create the action

1. Open **Actions**, then **Add**. In **Select an action type**, choose **Somfy**.
2. Fill in **Name**, required, 64 characters maximum, not only spaces.
3. In **Somfy box to control**, choose the box. The **One box per action** hint applies to this form.
4. In **Device**, choose the shutter, blind or other device saved for this box. For a confirmed URL missing from the list, choose **✎ Enter the URL manually…**, then fill in **Sub-device URL**. Fictitious example: `io://0000-0000-0000/1`.
5. In **Somfy command**, choose a command offered for this device, using the table below.
6. If a **Value** field appears, enter the desired percentage, from **0 to 100**. **0 is a usable value**, not an empty field. Orientation is also expressed as a percentage, not in degrees.
7. Click the round floppy disk at the bottom right and wait for **Success!**. The action appears in the list.
8. To automate it, [add it to the scenario concerned](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-compose-scenario/).

A position setpoint of 0 is not the **Stop** command: to stop the movement, choose **Stop** if it is offered. The physical result and the available positions depend on the configured device.

## Edit the action

Open the name or the pencil of the action. Review the box, device, command and value before saving. If a window lists affected scenarios, review their names, then click **SAVE**, or **CANCEL**. Wait for **Updated!**. Duplication, the side panel and leaving the form are described in [the common actions guide](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-action-edit/).

- Changing the box requires choosing the device again.
- Changing the device can clear a command that is not offered for the new target: then choose a suitable command and check the remaining value.
- An old saved URL can remain displayed although it is no longer in the discovered list. The form thus preserves the choice, without confirming its availability: check the target before keeping it.
- To act on several boxes, prepare one action per box, add them to the scenario and check each target.

## Check the result

**Success!** confirms that the action is saved. After the scenario runs, watch the device and compare its movement or position with the saved command and value.

## Troubleshooting

- The **Somfy** type does not appear: clear the search, then check the context and the Somfy option. If access is still missing, contact support.
- Some commands have disappeared: the choices follow the known capabilities of the selected device. Check the box and the device, then refresh and save its discovery if needed. Changing the interface language does not change this choice. If the capabilities are not known, a broader catalog can appear: not all its commands necessarily work on your model.
- No **Value** field after **Open**: this is normal, this command does not use a percentage. There is no need to enter 0.
- The shutter does not move: saving prepares the action, which acts when the scenario runs. Check the saved target and command, then the box’s discovery status.
