--- title: "Import an ETS file into Link’nX: XML export of group addresses" description: "Export the group addresses of your ETS project as XML, then upload the file in Link’nX KNX Configuration: 1 MB limit, confirmation and error messages." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-knx-file/ language: en product: Link’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Link’nX web: KNX card, KNX Configuration page; XML export from ETS 5" --- # Import an ETS file into Link’nX: XML export of group addresses Context: Link’nX web: KNX card, KNX Configuration page; XML export from ETS 5 Link’nX takes the group addresses of your KNX project from an XML export made in ETS and uploaded in **KNX Configuration**. These addresses are then offered in your configurations and feed the [ETS address filter](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-knx-filter/) before an action generation. Intended for installers and administrators who have the ETS project corresponding to the gateway. ## Before you start - The installation’s ETS project is open, with the **Group Addresses** panel. - The **KNX Configuration** help illustrates ETS 5 in French. If the menus of your ETS version differ, ask support for the appropriate procedure. ## Export the group addresses from ETS 5 1. Right-click in the group address tree, then choose **Export Group Addresses**. 2. In the window of the same name, under **Output Format**, choose **XML**. 3. Fill in **Export File Name**, or click **Browse** to choose the location and name of the file. 4. Click **OK**. **Cancel** closes the window without running the export. ## Upload the file to Link’nX 1. Check the project and gateway displayed, then open **KNX** in the equipment navigation. The **KNX Configuration** page is displayed. The [navigation guide](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-navigation/) explains how to find a protocol card or open the menu on mobile. 2. Locate the file row: it shows the **Name** and **Upload date** of the current file when they are available. The date is displayed in Paris time. 3. To the right of this row, click the sheet icon with an upward arrow, **Upload a file**. 4. In the file picker, choose the **XML** file of the right project. It must not be empty and must not exceed **1 MB**, that is 1,000,000 bytes. 5. The browser confirmation shows **Upload file** followed by its name. Reread this name, then confirm, or cancel so as not to send this file. 6. Wait for **ETS file loaded**. ## Replace the file with a new version The same **Upload a file** button sends a new version of the file. Check the project and the file before confirming. Do not rely on this new upload to correct the actions or conditions already configured: review their addresses and DPTs with the guides to [KNX actions](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-action-knx/) and [KNX triggers](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-trigger-knx/) before changing the automations. ## Check the result After **ETS file loaded**, check **Name** and **Upload date** on the file row. This confirmation concerns the file, not the equipment: test the KNX commands separately. To choose the addresses offered in your configurations and prepare an action generation, continue with the [ETS address filter](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-knx-filter/). ## Troubleshooting | Message or symptom | Action | | --- | --- | | **File is empty** | Choose an export that contains the expected addresses. | | **File is too large** | Check the file size. If the export exceeds the limit, contact support rather than deleting addresses at random to reduce it. | | **File is not valid** | Check that you chose the XML export of the project’s addresses, then the right file in the picker. | | Name or date not confirmed, file information cannot be retrieved | Contact support with the information listed below. | For a CSV intended for Crestron, follow the [ETS report for Crestron](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-crestron-export/). For another CSV, a complete ETS project file or another format variant, ask support for the appropriate procedure. Other questions are covered in the [ETS files and filters FAQ](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-knx-help/). If the file is still rejected or the problem persists, write to support@can-nx.com with the product, the project and gateway, the ETS version, the format, the file size and the message displayed. Do not send the complete file if it contains sensitive information.
