--- title: "Denon HEOS in Link’nX: create a volume, playback or mute action" description: "Create a Denon/HEOS action in Link’nX: volume from 0 to 100 or a step of 1 to 10, mute, play, pause and next track, then add it to a scenario." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-denon-actions/ language: en product: Link’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Link’nX web: Denon-type scenario action for declared Denon/HEOS players" --- # Denon HEOS in Link’nX: create a volume, playback or mute action Context: Link’nX web: Denon-type scenario action for declared Denon/HEOS players A Denon action in Link’nX sends a command to one or more declared Denon/HEOS players: set or change the volume, mute, start playback, pause, stop or change track. You then add it to a scenario. Intended for administrators and installers authorized to prepare Link’nX actions. To control a player directly from a KNX group address, use the [audio gateway table](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-audio-knx/) instead. For a BluOS player, follow the [BluOS commands](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-bluos-actions/). ## Before you start - The players are [declared in Denon](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-audio-devices/), with the correct address, port and player ID. - The project and gateway shown are those of the installation: the action only offers the players declared in this context. ## Create the Denon action 1. In the navigation, open **Actions**, then **Add**. 2. In **Select an action type**, choose **Denon**. 3. Fill in **Name**: at most 64 characters, including at least one character other than a space. Fictitious example: “Reception volume 20”. 4. In **Denon device**, check the target player or players. **Select all** chooses all the players offered. Close the list with Esc and check the selection: the same command targets each checked player. 5. Choose **Denon command**. If the **Command value** field appears, fill it in according to the table below. 6. Click the round floppy disk at the bottom right and wait for **Success!**. The minimum to fill in is therefore **Name**, **Denon device**, **Denon command**, then **Command value** if it is requested. The name remains required: to correct an existing action, keep its name; for a new action created from **Actions** then **Add**, enter one. ## Choose the command and its value | Command | Command value | Requested effect | | --- | --- | --- | | **Set volume** | Integer from **0 to 100** | Absolute level. Zero is a valid value, different from an empty field. Choose a level suited to the use before any test. | | **Volume up**, **Volume down** | Integer from **1 to 10** | Relative change of the volume, not the final volume. For a precise final level, use **Set volume**. | | **Mute on**, **Mute off** | No field | Mute or restore the sound. After **Mute off**, also check that a source is playing and that the volume is sufficient. | | **Toggle mute** | No field | Invert the mute state. To force a known state, prefer one of the two previous commands. | | **Play**, **Pause**, **Stop** | No field | Request the corresponding playback state. | | **Next**, **Previous** | No field | Request the track or preset change offered by the source in use. | For **Volume up** and **Volume down**, stay within the range **1 to 10**, even if the form seems to accept another value: entering 15 does not ensure a step of 15. **Set mute** and **Set play/pause** belong to the Denon [KNX gateway table](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-audio-knx/). In a Denon action, use the separate mute, **Play** and **Pause** commands, which have no value field. ## Edit an existing action 1. In the action list, open the action’s **Edit** pencil. Its type remains read-only during editing. 2. Check all the fields. After changing the command, check the value again: whether it is needed depends on the command chosen. 3. Save with the floppy disk and wait for **Updated!**. If the action is used by scenarios, follow [the validation of changes](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-action-edit/): read **Scenario affected by this change:** or **Scenarios affected by this change:**, then choose **SAVE** or **CANCEL**. ## Check the result **Success!** confirms that the action is saved, not that it was executed or that the sound is audible. Find the action in the list and reopen its **Edit** pencil to review the players, the command and the value. To use it in a schedule, follow [adding the action to the scenario](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-compose-scenario/). Before an authorized execution, check the target players and the intended sound level, then check the result on the relevant player and its available feedback. Players selected together each receive the command, without forming a synchronized audio group on their own. ## Troubleshooting | Symptom or message | Action | | --- | --- | | The zero volume seems to be missing | Choose **Set volume** and explicitly enter 0. For **Volume up**, zero is not a valid step. | | **Please enter a value within the allowed range.** | Check the command: integer from 0 to 100 for the absolute level, from 1 to 10 for the step. Do not leave the field empty when a value is requested. | | The player is not listed in **Denon device** | Check the project, the gateway and the player’s declaration in Denon. | | Nothing happens after execution | Reopen the action and check the chosen player, the command and its value. Check the IP, the port, the player ID and the audio source with the administrator. Do not keep changing the volume to look for a reaction. | If these checks have already been done, contact support@can-nx.com with the action name, the player, the expected result, the message and the tests carried out.
