--- title: Repeat date periods every year in a Link’nX condition description: "Repeat the same periods every year in a Link’nX condition: yearly grid, ranges crossing December 31, February 29 and conversion of existing dates." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-condition-annual/ language: en product: Link’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Link’nX web: Date range condition in Recurring yearly mode, yearly grid" --- # Repeat date periods every year in a Link’nX condition Context: Link’nX web: Date range condition in Recurring yearly mode, yearly grid In **Recurring yearly** mode, the Link’nX **Date range** condition uses months and days without a year: the same periods apply every year. It is used in particular to prepare recurring operating or exclusion periods, for example a winter period from December 20 to January 5. Intended for administrators and installers. For dates with their year, follow the [specific date ranges](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-condition-dates/) guide instead. ## Select the periods in the yearly grid 1. From **Conditions**, create a condition with **Add**, then **Date range**, or open an existing condition. Fill in or check **Name**. 2. Turn on **Recurring yearly**. If dates are already filled in, follow the confirmation described in “Convert ranges already filled in”. 3. In the yearly grid, find the month on the left and the day in the columns. On a narrow screen, scroll the grid horizontally to reach the last days of the month. On a computer, hovering over a cell shows its month and day. 4. Click once on the start day, then a second time on the end day. Both clicks are required. A chip below the grid shows the range with an arrow between its bounds. Two clicks on the same day create a single-day period. 5. Repeat the two clicks for each additional period. To remove a range, use the cross on its chip: the removal acts on the form immediately, without confirmation. ## Apply the rule and save 1. Leave **Active outside ranges** turned off to apply the rule within the ranges. Turn it on to apply the rule outside all the ranges. 2. Keep at least one complete range and click the floppy disk. Follow the [save confirmations](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/link-condition-edit/). 3. In the scenario, select this condition in **Date condition**, then save the scenario. ## Ranges crossing December 31 and February 29 A range can cross the turn of the year: in a fictitious example, click December 20, then January 5, to keep this winter period. The start and end days are part of the range. A second click on a day earlier in the year therefore creates a range that passes through December 31: check the order of your two clicks. The grid includes February 29 and its active-day counter uses a base of **366 days**. This counter represents the yearly grid; not every year has 366 days. A range limited to February 29 only finds this day in leap years. ## Convert ranges already filled in When you change the **Recurring yearly** switch with dates already filled in: 1. Review **Switch to recurring yearly mode?** or **Switch to year-based mode?** and the **Current date ranges:**. 2. **Carry over existing date ranges** is initially checked. Toward yearly recurrence, the years are removed. Toward dates with a year, the ranges are assigned to the current year. 3. To start again from empty ranges, uncheck this box. The message **All existing date ranges will be cleared.** states the consequence. 4. Click **CONFIRM** to apply the change to the form, or **CANCEL** to keep the previous mode and dates. 5. Check or recreate the ranges before saving with the floppy disk. For a return to dates with a year involving February 29 or a range that crosses December 31, start again from empty ranges and explicitly choose the dates and their years in the calendar. ## Check the result - Check the colored areas of the grid and its legend: **Active**, or **Active (outside ranges)** when exclusion is on. - Review the summary sentence below the grid; in yearly mode, it ends with “(any year)”. - Check each chip: bounds and order of the two clicks. ## Troubleshooting - No complete chip appears: check that you made the end click. - All ranges have been removed: add one before saving, even if exclusion mode colors the grid. - The result differs from your intention: check the bounds, their order and the exclusion switch. If doubt remains, contact support@can-nx.com with the periods, the chosen mode and the steps already taken.
