# Create, edit or duplicate equipment in Emergy’nX

Context: Emergy’nX: Equipment section of a real project, General, Monitoring and Control tabs

In Emergy’nX, each monitored or controlled device (domestic hot water, heating, pool, EV charger, photovoltaic production…) is an equipment item in the **Equipment** section. There you create its configuration, edit it or start from similar equipment to duplicate it, then save and review the parameters.

Intended for the administrator or installer in charge of configuring the project. To view or control equipment day to day, use the [dashboard](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-dashboard/); to remove a configuration, follow the [deletion procedure](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-equipment-list/).

## Before you start

- Prepare the equipment’s characteristics and the parameters validated for your installation. A prefilled value is not a recommended setting.
- Work in the real project: the demo does not give access to the configuration menus. If the menu is missing, check the project with the [access guide](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-access/).

## Create equipment

1. Open **Equipment** in the navigation. On a small screen, first open the menu with the three-line icon.
2. Click **Add Equipment**.
3. In the **General** tab, choose the **Equipment Type**, then fill in the **Name**, for example “Office heating” (a fictitious example).
4. Complete the characteristics specific to the type, described in the [characteristics by equipment type](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-equipment-types/) or, for a charger, in the [IRVE charger configuration](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-evcp-config/). When the **Max Power (kW)** field is present, enter the power in kW, not in W: a known power of 2,400 W is written 2.4 kW.
5. Open **Monitoring** to configure the measurements and **Control** for the commands, only according to the links planned for this equipment. These two sections can remain without an address; enabling them is described in the [KNX links](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/emergy-equipment-knx/). For some chargers, they are managed by the integration.
6. Click **Save**, in the bar at the bottom of the form. If errors appear, correct the fields in the indicated section, then try again.
7. Wait for the **Configuration saved successfully** message and the return to the list.

Switching between tabs keeps what you entered in the form, but only **Save** stores it.

## Edit existing equipment

1. In **Equipment**, locate the right name and click its **Edit** pencil.
2. Change the fields you want.
3. Click **Save** and wait for the confirmation.

The **Equipment Type** is locked after creation.

## Duplicate similar equipment

1. In **Equipment**, click the two-sheet **Duplicate** icon of the equipment to copy. A new form takes over its parameters and adds **(copy)** to the name.
2. Rename the copy.
3. Check all the parameters specific to the new device, in particular its KNX addresses or its IP address.
4. Click **Save**. The new configuration is created at that moment: clicking **Duplicate** only prepares the form.

## Change the type or leave the form

In a creation or duplication form, changing the type after entering data may display **Change equipment type?**:

- **Cancel** keeps the current type;
- **Change type** keeps the name but resets the specific parameters: fill in the fields again before saving.

The **Back** arrow button returns to the list. Save the entries you want to keep first: a warning does not always appear before you leave.

## Check the result

- Find the name in the **Equipment** list. After a duplication, check that both rows are present.
- Open the equipment with its **Edit** pencil and review the saved parameters.
- Then check on the dashboard that the measurements and commands give the expected result on the hardware.

## Troubleshooting

| Message or symptom | Action |
| --- | --- |
| **Form is invalid** or **Sections to fix** | Open the indicated section; the one containing the first error may open automatically. Check the name, the required numeric fields, the addresses entered and the specifics of the type. |
| **Configuration save error** | Treat the save as unconfirmed and keep the values to enter. Check the list and reopen the configuration before recreating the equipment, to avoid a duplicate if the result is uncertain. |
| **No Equipment Selected** | Go back with **Back**, then reopen the equipment from the list. |

If the menu is still missing, the error persists or the parameters are saved but produce no result on the hardware, contact support@can-nx.com with the project, the equipment name and type, the displayed message and the steps already tried. Never send a password or a confidential access link.
