--- title: "Set up a Chart’nX water dashboard: name, presence and total meter" description: "Name a Chart’nX water dashboard, declare the presence source and set up the KNX or Modbus total water meter: unit, index mode and custom factor." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-water-general/ language: en product: Chart’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Chart’nX: existing water dashboard generator, General, Overlays and Main meters sections" --- # Set up a Chart’nX water dashboard: name, presence and total meter Context: Chart’nX: existing water dashboard generator, General, Overlays and Main meters sections In the Chart’nX water generator, fill in the dashboard name, the presence source overlaid on consumption and the **Total meter**, measured over KNX or Modbus. Meters per zone or per use are then set up in the [water groups](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-water-groups/). Intended for administrators and installers. ## Before you start - The water dashboard is open from **Chart'nX**, then **Configure**, as described in [the Emergy’nX entry point](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-open-emergy/). Its name and the project have been checked. - **New dashboard** creates an energy dashboard. If no water dashboard is available, or if you need to create one without a corresponding command, contact support. - The units and the KNX addresses or Modbus configurations of your meters are known. The water form includes the **General**, **Overlays**, **Main meters**, **Sub-meters** with the groups, **Weather**, **Basins** and **Display order** sections. ## Name the dashboard and declare presence 1. In **General**, fill in **Dashboard name**. This name is required. Fictitious example: “Water — workshop building”. 2. To overlay presence, click **+ Add source** in **Overlays**, then choose **Presence / absence**. It serves the whole dashboard. If you don’t use an overlay, leave the section empty. 3. In its card, choose the **Protocol**. For KNX, fill in the signal’s **Group address** in three-level format, for example **1/2/3** as a fictitious value: first level from 0 to 31, second from 0 to 7, third from 0 to 255. For Modbus, select its **Modbus Configuration**. 4. Check **High / low state**: on the ▲ row, labeled **Present**, choose **1** or **0** according to the value that actually means “presence” for this signal. The value offered initially is 1; the other value corresponds to **Absent**. An address outside this format makes the source incomplete: correct the entry. On an existing dashboard, a presence address already configured appears as a **Presence / absence** source. The temperature sources and how the chips work are detailed in [Overlay temperature or presence](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-meter-display/). ## Set up the total meter 1. In **Main meters**, locate **Total meter**. Turn on its switch if you have a total measurement; otherwise, turn it off and set up the water groups. Disabling keeps the fields for a reactivation and has no effect on the physical meter. 2. In the active card, fill in **Meter name** and choose **Protocol**: **KNX** or **Modbus**. 3. Choose **Index** for a cumulative reading, or **Not indexed** if the value already represents the period or the instant. 4. For KNX, fill in **Group address** or select the correct suggestion. For Modbus, select **Modbus Configuration**; if the entry is missing, see [the Modbus catalog](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-catalog/). 5. In **Meter unit of measurement**, choose the unit of the value received: **Liter (L)**, **Kiloliter (kL)** or **Cubic meter (m³)**. 6. Check **Custom Factor**, a non-zero number initially set to 1. It corrects the metering ratio, for example 10 units per pulse; unit conversion goes through **Meter unit of measurement**. Set them according to the measurement provided, not to get a visually plausible curve. 7. To show presence on this meter, click **+ Add overlay** in its **Overlays** section, then choose **Presence / absence** under **Band**. The cross on the chip removes this overlay. ## Keep an old address Under a KNX address, **+ Add historical address** adds a **Historical** row for an old address of this same measurement, with its own unit and factor. Each added row must be filled in; its cross removes it from the form. For carrying history over between meters or for overlapping data, have the rules clarified by support before confirming. ## Check the result [Save the dashboard](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-save/). If a [KNX monitoring](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-monitoring/) window is offered, handle the necessary assignments. Then open the dashboard over a period in which you expect data: check the total meter curve and any presence band. ## Troubleshooting - An overlay chip shows a warning, with the **Source incomplete** tooltip: complete the address or the labels of the source in **Overlays**. - For a blocking field or a missing measurement, follow [the water dashboard troubleshooting](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-water-help/). If the problem persists, contact support@can-nx.com, specifying Chart’nX, the dashboard and your water monitoring need.
