--- title: Add, duplicate or delete a Chart’nX energy submeter description: Add a KNX or Modbus energy submeter in Chart’nX, choose its consumption category and display options, then filter, duplicate or delete its card. canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-submeters/ language: en product: Chart’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Chart’nX: energy dashboard generator, Sub-meters section" --- # Add, duplicate or delete a Chart’nX energy submeter Context: Chart’nX: energy dashboard generator, Sub-meters section In the Chart’nX energy generator, a submeter measures the consumption of one use (lighting, heating, EV charging…) from a KNX group address or a Modbus configuration. Add its card, find it with the filter, duplicate it or delete it, then save the dashboard. Intended for administrators and installers. To add several Modbus configurations of the project as submeters at once, follow [Import Modbus configurations](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-import/) instead. The meters of a water dashboard are managed in groups, with other fields: see [Add a water group](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-water-groups/). ## Before you start The energy dashboard is open with **Configure**, on the **Sub-meters** section. ## Add a submeter 1. Click **+ Add** at the top of **Sub-meters**, or **+ Add your first sub-meter** if the section is empty. A numbered card appears. 2. Fill in **Meter name**, which is required. Fictitious example: “Heating — example zone”. This name lets you recognize the measurement in the charts. 3. Choose **Consumption category** according to the actual use: **Lighting**, **Heating**, **Cooling**, **Ventilation**, **Water heater**, **Pool**, **EV charging** or **Other**. The initial category is **Other**. 4. Fill in **Protocol**, **Index** or **Not indexed**, **Group address** or **Modbus Configuration**, **Meter unit of measurement** and **Custom Factor**, following [the meter fields guide](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-meters/). The units offered for energy are Wh and kWh. 5. In **Display**, set the boxes according to the panels you want: **Show in chart**, **Include in the total pie chart** and **Deduct from Reste**, all checked initially. Uncheck **Deduct from Reste** if this meter is already measured by another submeter (nested meter). 6. If needed, add [overlays](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-meter-display/): temperature or presence on the meter’s chart. 7. [Save the dashboard](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-save/). A submeter placed in a group shows neither **Display** nor **Overlays**: the group carries these settings, as described in [Group the submeters](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-groups/). ## Find a card Type part of the name in **Filter sub-meters…** at the top of the section. The search covers the name, not the KNX address. Cards hidden by the filter stay in the dashboard and are saved with it. Clear the filter to see all the cards again. ## Duplicate a submeter 1. In the card header, click the two-sheets icon, **Duplicate the meter**. A new card takes over the meter’s configuration, with a name ending in **-- Copy**. 2. Check all the copied fields, including historical addresses. 3. Give the copy its own name and the measurement of the device it must represent: until you change it, it measures the same device as the original. 4. Reread the warnings about addresses used elsewhere, then save the dashboard. ## Delete a submeter 1. In the card header, click the **Delete the meter** trash icon. 2. Check the number and the name in the **Remove meter … ?** window. This confirmation is in English even in the French interface. 3. **Cancel** cancels; **Confirm** removes the submeter from the form. 4. Check the [groups](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-groups/) and the [calculations](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-operations/) that used it. The meter is removed from group members; a calculation that references it may require a correction before saving. 5. [Save the dashboard](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-save/) to keep the deletion. Deletion removes the submeter configuration from this dashboard only: the device receives no command and the erasure of its history is not confirmed. Before saving, **Cancel** on an existing dashboard restores the last save, which also discards the other unsaved changes. ## Check the result A card that you added, copied or deleted is kept only after **Saved successfully**. Then open the dashboard in view mode and check the panels and the pie chart. ## Troubleshooting - An added card seems to be missing: clear the filter and scroll through the section before adding another one. - For a deletion, a copy or a save whose result does not match what you expected, see [Troubleshoot meters](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-meter-help/).
