# Save a Chart’nX dashboard: preview, save and close the generator

Context: Chart’nX: energy or water dashboard generator, Configure and Preview tabs, save bar

The Chart’nX generator flags the fields to correct, previews the panels with the current configuration, then saves the dashboard, whether energy or water. Follow this procedure to validate a form that is already filled in and exit the generator without losing any change.

Intended for administrators and installers in charge of the configuration.

## Before you start

- The dashboard generator is open, with its name at the top and the form sections: [from Emergy’nX](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-open-emergy/), choose a dashboard, then **Configure**, or **New dashboard** to create one.
- The project shown is the right one.
- The form is filled in and its addresses and characteristics match the installation. For the first fields, see the [general information of an energy dashboard](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-general/) or that of a [water dashboard](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-water-general/).

## Correct the flagged fields

1. On a computer, the **Sections** list leads to the parts of the form. If **field(s) need attention** appears, open this list and click the flagged field to find it.
2. On mobile, errors are listed in the save bar at the bottom: tap the number of issues, then **Go →** next to the relevant field.
3. Correct the flagged fields, then check the dashboard name and the configured meters.

**Ready to save**, or **Can save** on mobile, indicates that the form can be saved. At this stage, nothing is saved yet.

## Preview the dashboard

1. On a computer, select **Preview** at the top: the panels are displayed with the configuration currently entered.
2. Go back to **Configure** to adjust it. Switching between these two generator tabs keeps your entries.

The preview shows the current local day, with a precision of one hour, in the browser’s time zone. The period commands and the CSV export belong to the saved dashboard and are not shown here. The **Previewing unsaved changes** banner reminds you that this display saves nothing. Its **Save now** button saves the form: check the fields in **Configure** first.

On a screen less than 1,024 pixels wide, the internal **Configure** and **Preview** tabs are hidden and the form remains displayed: use a wider screen for the preview. The **View** and **Configure** tabs of the Emergy’nX page are separate commands that change the page.

## Save the dashboard

1. When **Unsaved changes** appears, select **Save** in the bottom bar. The button is grayed out while saving, if there is no change to save or if fields remain invalid.
2. Wait for the **Saved successfully** confirmation. The unsaved changes indicators disappear.
3. An address monitoring window may then ask for additional processing. If it opens, follow [Assign the addresses to the gateways](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-monitoring/). ## Cancel or close the generator

On a dashboard that has already been saved, **Cancel** in the bottom bar restores the configuration of the last save and leaves the generator open. The changes made since that save are discarded: check the restored values before continuing.

To exit, use the back arrow at the top left or the cross at the top right. If there are changes, the **Unsaved changes** window offers:

- **Cancel**: stay in the form and keep your entries;
- **Discard**: exit without saving these changes;
- **Save & close**: save, then request closing. First check that the form is valid. To handle any monitoring after saving, prefer **Save** in the bottom bar.

To abandon a first creation, close the generator, then choose **Discard**.

## Check the result

Only the **Saved successfully** confirmation proves the save, even if the generator window has disappeared. Then reopen the saved dashboard in view mode to check its name, its panels and its data over a period in which you expect measurements: this is where you confirm they are being logged. ## Troubleshooting

| Situation | Action |
| --- | --- |
| **Could not generate preview.** persists after checking the fields | Your entries remain in **Configure**: the data is not lost because of this. Contact support. |
| **An error has occurred** when saving | Consider the changes unsaved. Keep the page open, note the message and try again. If the new attempt fails, or if an attempt has already failed, contact support. |
| The application hosting the dashboard does not respond to closing | Keep the useful information and contact support. |
| Monitoring choices suited to the installation are uncertain | Contact support before confirming. |
