--- title: Import Modbus configurations as Chart’nX submeters description: Add several Modbus meters from the catalog at once as submeters of a Chart’nX energy or water dashboard, without any file, then save the dashboard. canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-import/ language: en product: Chart’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Chart’nX generator: submeters section (energy) or meter group (water)" --- # Import Modbus configurations as Chart’nX submeters Context: Chart’nX generator: submeters section (energy) or meter group (water) **Import modbus** turns existing configurations from the project’s Modbus catalog into submeters of a Chart’nX energy or water dashboard, pre-filled with their name and their Modbus reference. This import does not ask for a file. Intended for administrators and installers, in the Chart’nX generator. To manually add or remove an energy card, see [Manage submeters](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-submeters/) instead. ## Before you start - Open the dashboard in configuration mode as described in [the Emergy’nX entry point](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-open-emergy/). - The configurations to import exist in the catalog. If one is missing, you can declare it during the import. ## Open the Modbus import - Energy dashboard: locate the submeters section and click **Import modbus**, preceded by a down arrow. - Water dashboard: use **Import modbus** in the group that should receive the submeters. The chosen group determines their destination. ## Select and import the configurations 1. The **Import sub-meters** window shows the available configurations. **Search by model name…** filters their name. Also check the **unit ID** and **register** columns to distinguish similar names. 2. Click the rows to keep. A selection stays kept when you change the filter: clear the search and reread the whole selection before confirming. 3. Click **Import N sub-meters**, where N is the number selected. Each configuration becomes a new submeter pre-filled with its name and its Modbus reference. 4. In the energy dashboard, the view moves to the first meter added; in the water dashboard, find the submeters in the starting group. **Cancel** closes the selection without importing. ## Declare a configuration during the import If the configuration does not exist yet, click **+ Declare a configuration** (on mobile **+ Declare**) to open [the creation form](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-config/). **Create & use** then adds this configuration as a submeter at the starting destination. Successive creations made with **Then create another** stay in the catalog: come back to import them to add them to the dashboard. **Manage catalog** opens the [Modbus catalog](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-catalog/) to view, edit or create entries. Opening it imports nothing: after closing it, click **Import modbus** again to make the selection. ## Check the result 1. Check each meter added: name, selected configuration, unit, factor, measurement mode and display options. The import does not do this setup for you. 2. [Save the dashboard](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-save/). Before this save, the addition remains a change to the current dashboard. Changes already saved in the catalog remain applied even if you discard the dashboard changes. ## Troubleshooting - The list is empty: first clear the filter, then check the project and the active entries of the catalog. - The meter already exists in the dashboard: select the configuration in its card rather than importing it. Importing the same configuration again may add a new card. If an expected configuration is still missing or if nothing is added after confirmation, contact support@can-nx.com, specifying the dashboard, the group for water, the number selected and the steps already tried.
