Its reading configurations are then attached to it. Intended for administrators and installers, in the Chart’nX energy or water generator. To remove a gateway from the project, follow [Archive or delete Modbus items](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-archive/) instead: deletion has different consequences from deactivation. ## Before you start - Prepare the network address of the hardware: IP address and port. - Identify the project’s Can’nX gateway that should record the data. The form offers the compatible Kloud’nX and Emergy’nX gateways present in this project. ## Create the gateway 1. Open the [Modbus catalog](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-catalog/), then click **+ New Modbus gateway**; on a small screen, the label may be **+ Modbus gateway**. The configuration form opens with the gateway creation fields. In a new configuration, the same **+ New Modbus gateway** button, under the **Modbus gateway** selector, also opens these fields. 2. Fill in **Gateway name**, for example “Workshop gateway” (fictitious name), then **IP address** and **Port**. The initial port is 502: keep it only if it matches your device. 3. In **Can'nX gateway that will save the data**, choose the box intended for this project. 4. Click **Create gateway**. These four pieces of information are required. After success, the creation fields close and the new gateway is selected for the Modbus configuration. 5. Continue if necessary with [Declare a Modbus configuration](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-config/). To only create the gateway, then click **Back** in the catalog to return to the list. The creation is saved immediately. **Cancel** in the gateway fields discards what has not yet been created; canceling a configuration or a dashboard afterwards does not remove a gateway that has already been created. ## Edit an existing gateway 1. In **Active**, click the **Edit gateway** pencil in the gateway header. 2. Check the name, the IP, the port and the associated Can’nX gateway. 3. Click **Save**, or **Cancel** to close the fields without saving. If the former Can’nX gateway appears as **missing from this project**, identify the correct destination with the person responsible for the installation before changing this association. ## Disable or re-enable a gateway The header switch has the tooltip **Disable gateway** when the gateway is active, or **Enable gateway** when it is disabled. A click applies the change immediately. - Deactivation affects the reading of all this gateway’s configurations. The **Disabled** badge appears and reading tests become unavailable. The configurations are kept. - To resume, re-enable the gateway if this action is planned, then check a reading and the data. ## Check the result The gateway appears in **Active** with its IP address and port. Just after creation, the reading test may remain unavailable: follow the message inviting you to test from the catalog once the gateway is online, then [test a reading](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-test/). ## Troubleshooting - The correct Can’nX gateway is missing from the list: have its attachment to the project checked by the administrator or contact support. Do not select another box just to complete the form. - **Fill in the gateway fields first**: complete the flagged fields. - **Could not save the Modbus gateway** or **Could not change the gateway state**: return to the catalog and check the state shown before repeating the operation. If the result remains uncertain, contact support@can-nx.com with the message and the action attempted. French labels: **Nom de la passerelle**, **Passerelle Can'nX qui sauvegardera les données**, **Désactiver la passerelle**.
