You can also remove a Modbus gateway from the project by archiving its configurations. Intended for administrators and installers. For a temporary stop of an entire gateway, see [Create, edit or disable a Modbus gateway](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-gateway/) instead. ## Before you start - Open the project’s [Modbus catalog](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-catalog/). - Check the dashboards concerned before any action: the catalog is shared and its changes are saved immediately. Closing the catalog or discarding the dashboard does not cancel them. ## Archive a configuration 1. In **Active**, expand the gateway and locate the configuration by its name, its unit and its register. 2. Click the **Archive** box icon on this row. 3. Read **Archive this configuration?**. The window states that the configuration will no longer be read by the box and that its history stays available. It may show **Still used by:** with dashboards, and indicate that the dashboard being edited uses it. Check your uses even if no list appears. 4. Click **Archive** to confirm the stop, or **Cancel** to keep it active. 5. Find it in **Archived**. The dashboards concerned may continue to show the history, but will no longer receive new measurements for this configuration. ## Restore an archived configuration 1. In **Archived**, expand its group and click the **Restore** return arrow. 2. If its gateway exists, the restoration is requested directly. If the gateway has been deleted, a confirmation states that the configuration will be restored without a gateway: **Restore** makes it editable again, **Cancel** lets you stop. 3. In this last case, find it in **Active**, then use [Edit configuration](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-config/) to associate the correct gateway with it. A restoration alone does not recreate the hardware or its association: then check [a reading](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-modbus-test/). ## Permanently delete a configuration Only a configuration in **Archived** can be permanently deleted. This action is irreversible: its recorded history will stay orphaned, and recreating a configuration does not reattach it to the new entry, which starts with an empty history. 1. In **Archived**, click the configuration’s **Delete permanently** trash icon. 2. Read **Permanently delete this configuration?**, then click **Delete** to request the deletion, or **Cancel** to keep the archive. 3. If saved dashboards still use this configuration, a second confirmation may list them and offer **Delete anyway**. Also check the warning about the unsaved dashboard. To preserve a use, or if you don’t know its impact, cancel and have the references checked by the person responsible for the project. Force the deletion only once these consequences have been taken into account. ## Delete a Modbus gateway from the project 1. In **Active**, check the gateway’s name and network address, then click the **Delete gateway** trash icon in the group header. 2. In **Delete this Modbus gateway?**, click **Delete** to request its removal, or **Cancel** to keep it. 3. If it still contains configurations, a second confirmation shows their number. **Delete gateway and archive its configurations** archives these configurations, then removes the gateway; their histories are kept. **Cancel** stops this confirmation. ## Check the result Reread **Active** and **Archived** after each operation: an archived configuration is listed in **Archived**, a restored configuration returns to **Active**. After a gateway is deleted, the **Gateway deleted** badge may accompany the archived group of this former gateway. ## Troubleshooting | Message | Meaning | Action | | --- | --- | --- | | “Archived N of M — the rest was kept” | The operation was only partly carried out | Reread **Active** and **Archived** before doing anything else | | Configurations archived, but deleting the gateway failed | The gateway remains listed | Reread **Active** and **Archived** before doing anything else | | **Could not archive the configuration**, **Could not restore the configuration**, **Deletion failed**, **Could not refresh the catalog** | The operation or the reload failed | Close and reopen the catalog, then check the state | The successful steps are not automatically canceled. After an error, check the state before recreating an entry. If the expected result is not established or the uncertainty persists, contact support@can-nx.com with the exact message, the items still visible and the steps already taken. French labels: **Archiver**, **Restaurer**, **Supprimer définitivement**, **Supprimer quand même**.
