--- title: Overlay temperature or presence on a Chart’nX meter chart description: Add a temperature line or a presence band to a Chart’nX meter chart, declare its overlay source, and choose where a submeter appears. canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-meter-display/ language: en product: Chart’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Chart’nX: energy generator, Overlays section and meter or submeter card" --- # Overlay temperature or presence on a Chart’nX meter chart Context: Chart’nX: energy generator, Overlays section and meter or submeter card In the Chart’nX energy generator, an overlay adds a temperature line or a presence band to a meter’s consumption chart. The **Display** boxes of a submeter decide whether it appears in the chart and in the total distribution. For administrators and installers, from the meter card in **Configure**, once its measurement is filled in as described in [the main meters](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-meters/). The options offered depend on the card. ## Declare the source to overlay A source is declared once for the whole dashboard, in the **Overlays** section located below **General**. First check the ones that already exist. 1. Click **+ Add source**, then choose **Outdoor temperature**, **Water temperature** or **Presence / absence**. In this menu, a source already there is marked **already added**; **Custom source…** is for other measurements. 2. In the source card, choose the **Protocol**, then fill in the KNX **Group address**, for example the fictitious **1/2/3**, or the **Modbus Configuration**. 3. For presence, check **High / low state**: on the ▲ row, labeled **Present**, choose the value, **1** or **0**, that the sensor sends when someone is present. ## Add the overlay to the meter 1. In the meter card, under **Overlays**, click **+ Add overlay**. 2. Choose the source: values, such as temperatures, are listed under **Value line**; states, such as presence, under **Band**. A chip appears with the color and the name of the source; its ▾ arrow lets you change it. 3. [Save the dashboard](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-save/). To remove an overlay, click the cross on its chip, then save: neither the source nor the physical sensor is deleted. If the source is missing, **Create a source…**, at the bottom of the list, takes you back to the **Overlays** section. A chart takes at most one **Value line** and one **Band**; the add button disappears once the card has all those it offers: | Card | Overlays offered | | --- | --- | | **General meters - Apparent power** | **Band** only, for example presence | | **General meters - Total energy consumed** | **Value line** and **Band** | | Submeter outside a group | **Value line** and **Band** | | **PV meter**, **Battery meter**, **Grid meter** | None | In a group, a submeter shows neither **Overlays** nor **Display**: the group has its own overlays, in the **Groups** section. ## Choose where a submeter appears In the **Display** section of a submeter: - **Show in chart** controls its chart display; - **Include in the total pie chart** controls its inclusion in the distribution; - **Deduct from Reste** (Reste: remainder) is unchecked when this meter is already measured by another submeter (nested meter). It is then already counted elsewhere: **Include in the total pie chart** is unchecked and locked. These boxes do not delete the submeter. For the order of panels or grouping, see [Groups and order](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-groups/). ## Check the result After saving, check the meter’s chart in the dashboard. If the source is declared but the overlay is still missing, check [the period](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-period/) and the expected measurements. ## Troubleshooting - A warning symbol on the chip, tooltip **Source incomplete**: in **Overlays**, complete the name, the address and, depending on the kind, the unit or the state labels of the source. As long as it is incomplete, the dashboard cannot be saved. - Do not modify a sensor or an address used for other purposes to solve a display problem. For other symptoms, follow the [meter troubleshooting](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/chart-meter-help/). If the problem persists, contact support@can-nx.com with the dashboard, the card, the chosen overlay and any message.
