--- title: Create a user account in Boss’nX and assign its role description: "Add a Boss’nX user: username without spaces, password of at least 8 characters, role, alarm email and, in a hypervision, the supervisions it can access." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-users-create/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX: Users of a supervision or Hypervision users, with account management rights" --- # Create a user account in Boss’nX and assign its role Context: Boss’nX: Users of a supervision or Hypervision users, with account management rights In Boss’nX, a user account gives a person a login username and a role that sets their rights in the supervision or hypervision. You create it from **Users**; the notification address, optional, is used for alarm emails. Intended for the administrator or installer authorized to manage accounts. To correct an existing account, follow [edit an account](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-users-edit/). ## Before you start - Prepare the person’s name, a username and the role to assign to them. - If needed, check [the available roles and their permissions](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-roles-consult/). ## Open and fill in the form 1. Open **Menu → Users** in the supervision or **Hypervision users** in the aggregated view, as described in [view accounts](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-users-consult/). 2. Click **Add user**. The form is titled **Add a new user**. 3. In **Login credentials**, fill in **Username**. Use unaccented Latin letters, digits, a dot, a hyphen or an underscore, without spaces. Fictitious example: `reception.site-01`. 4. Fill in **Password**, required at creation: at least 8 characters. Type it only in the interface. 5. In **Account details**, open **Role** and explicitly select the role intended for this person: the field may already show another role. Check the chosen name. If the role you are looking for is missing, have the available roles checked rather than choosing a more permissive role to finish the creation. 6. If the person must receive alarms by email, fill in **Notification email** with a valid address. Fictitious example: `reception@example.invalid`. This address is not the login username. 7. Check **Receive alarm emails**, initially enabled. You can disable it to pause this sending while keeping the address. Receipt also depends on the [role’s notification rules](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-role-notifications/). 8. Fill in **Display name**, required. Fictitious example: `Site reception`. On a narrow screen, the form fills the screen: scroll through its fields to reach **Display name** and any scope. The actions are at the bottom. ## Limit the scope of a hypervision account The **Portée hypervision** (Hypervision scope) block may appear in a hypervision context, including when a supervision is open in it. Check the context before choosing the scope. 1. **Toutes les supervisions** (All supervisions) is the initial choice. To limit the scope, choose **Supervisions sélectionnées** (Selected supervisions). 2. Tick the supervisions you want in the list. Scroll it if necessary. 3. In this mode, tick at least one supervision: **Sélectionnez au moins une supervision.** (Select at least one supervision.) indicates that this choice is missing. 4. If you go back to **Toutes les supervisions**, then to **Supervisions sélectionnées**, redo and check the selection. If the selection is unavailable, for example with **Aucune supervision n’est disponible pour le moment.** (No supervision is available at the moment.), or if an expected supervision is missing, check the attached supervisions with the administrator before creating the account. ## Create the account 1. Review the username, the role, the display name and, where applicable, the scope and the notification address. 2. Click **Create user** once, then wait for processing to finish. Before submitting, **Cancel**, the **Close** cross or Escape abandons your input. After clicking **Create user**, wait for the result before leaving: closing the window does not cancel the operation already submitted. ## Check the result 1. The **User created successfully.** message appears and the form closes. 2. Find the new row and check its role and its notification settings. 3. If the row does not appear, use **Refresh** and wait for a successful load before starting a creation again. This message confirms that the account was created, not that an invitation was sent. Pass the login information on to the person through your organization’s usual channel; in a supervision, [Share access](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-share-login/) provides the link to the login page. The person then signs in as described in [access Boss’nX](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-access/). ## Troubleshooting | Symptom | Action | | --- | --- | | **Add user** absent | Have your account management rights checked. | | Add button grayed out or role loading error | Reload the page, then check the roles with the administrator. | | Confirmation impossible | Check the required fields, the username format, the password’s 8 characters, the address if filled in and any supervision selection. The browser may directly flag an invalid field. | | Error after confirming | Keep the message and check the list after **Refresh**. | Other common questions, such as an invitation not received, are covered in [the accounts FAQ](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-users-help/). If the account was not created and the cause remains unknown, or if an expected supervision is still missing from the scope, contact support@can-nx.com with the context and the steps tried. Never include a password in a support request.
