--- title: "Boss’nX tags: browse the catalog and the assigned datapoints" description: "Browse the tags in Boss’nX: standard catalog and project tags, assigned datapoints with their addresses, counters and the role rules linked to each tag." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-tags-consult/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX, supervision: Menu → Datapoint tags, with the rights to manage components" --- # Boss’nX tags: browse the catalog and the assigned datapoints Context: Boss’nX, supervision: Menu → Datapoint tags, with the rights to manage components The **Datapoint tags** page in Boss’nX gathers the catalog of standard tags, the project’s own tags, the datapoints each tag is assigned to and the role rules that rely on it. It lets you find a datapoint by its function, address or DPT, and check how a tag is used before changing it. Intended for the administrator or installer who has the component management right. ## Open and search for a tag 1. In the supervision concerned, open **Menu → Datapoint tags**, in the **Integration** family. If this family is folded, first click **Integration · … pages ▸**. See [Boss’nX navigation](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-navigation/). 2. Check the **Datapoint tags** title. The badge shows the number of project tags and standard tags. 3. In the list panel, use **Search across the … tags…**. The search covers the name, the description and the category, ignoring capitalization and accents. Try a short word, for example **départ**. 4. Choose a filter: **All**, **Project**, **Standard** or **Unused**. 5. Click the tag you want to open its detail. Standard tags are grouped by category, such as **Températures** or **Alarmes**. Click a category’s arrow to expand it. During a search, the categories containing a result open automatically; clearing the search restores their previous state. Tags are presented with priority given to their use. A list filter does not automatically change the tag already open in the detail: always check its title before using an action. ## Understand the catalog and the counters The **Read-only** badge on a standard tag concerns its catalog entry: you can neither edit nor delete this entry, but the **Assign datapoints** button remains available. This badge does not apply to the datapoints carrying this tag: they are not all limited to read-only. The detail shows the number of **assigned datapoints**, of **components involved** and of **role rules** that rely on this tag. These counters list the datapoints carrying the tag and the rules that cite it directly. To know all of a user’s rights, also check the rules of their role. **Unused** keeps the tags with no datapoint or rule listed in these counters. If loading the roles failed, this filter does not let you conclude that the tag is not used in any rule. ## Find an assigned datapoint 1. In **Assigned datapoints**, locate the component’s name and its location. 2. Expand the component’s group if needed. When the tag concerns more than twelve datapoints, the groups are collapsed at first. 3. Use **Filter these … datapoints (name, address, component, zone)…** to search for a label, an address, a component or its location. A unit or a DPT can also be used to find a datapoint. 4. Read the datapoint’s row. Depending on the information available, the **Read**, **Write** and **DPT · unit** columns specify its identity. An address in **Read** or **Write** is the configured address. **R** or **W** may indicate a read or write capability without an address shown; **—** indicates that the corresponding information is missing. These columns are not command buttons. **Collapse all** closes the groups. During a datapoint search, the matching groups stay open; clear the search to get their collapsed state back. The tag’s large counters remain totals, even if the list of datapoints is filtered. The outgoing arrow icon to the right of a component’s header, with the tooltip **Open the component …**, opens its **Edit component** form. To simply view the tag, leave the fields as they are and use **Back**. ## Read the linked role rules **Linked role rules** shows the roles that directly cite this tag and the associated rule: visibility, hiding, read-only or limitation of the datapoints displayed for a component type. Have the administrator check the role’s rules before drawing conclusions about a person’s effective rights. Setting these rules is described in [the guide to a role’s tag rules](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-role-datapoint-tags/). ## Change tags or put them to use - To assign, replace or remove the tag of chosen datapoints: [targeted tag assignment](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-tags-assign/). - To create, edit or delete a project tag: [managing project tags](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-tags-manage/). - To classify untagged datapoints automatically: [Auto-tag](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-auto-tag/). - To configure alarms from the datapoints carrying a tag: [creating alarms by tag](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-tag-alarms-create/). ## Troubleshooting | Message or situation | Action | | --- | --- | | **No matching tag** or **No matching datapoint** | Empty the search concerned and check the filter. | | **No datapoint carries this tag yet.** | No assignment is listed for the open tag. Check the tag and the supervision. | | **Role rules unavailable — loading the roles failed.** | The datapoints can still be viewed, but not the rules. Reopen the page. | | Columns or actions hard to reach | On a narrow screen, the list and the detail are stacked: use a wider screen. | If an expected tag or datapoint is still missing, or if the rules remain unavailable after reopening the page, contact support@can-nx.com with the supervision, the name searched for and the checks already made. French labels: **Tags de points**, **Tags de points de données**, **Projet**, **Standards**, **Non utilisés**, **Points de données affectés**, **Règles de rôles liées**, **Lecture seule**. The names of the standard catalog and its categories remain in French in the English interface.
