--- title: Fix the errors and warnings of a Boss’nX schema description: "Handle Issues panel messages in the Boss’nX schema editor: unnamed schema, empty image, decorative element, link without destination, missing datapoint." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-validation/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX on a computer: schema editor, Issues panel and saving" --- # Fix the errors and warnings of a Boss’nX schema Context: Boss’nX on a computer: schema editor, Issues panel and saving In the Boss’nX schema editor, the **Issues** panel flags the incomplete elements of a drawing: schema without a name, empty Image element, button without data, link without destination, datapoint not found. Locate each flagged element, fix it or mark it decorative if it is purely visual, then save knowing which messages remain. Intended for administrators and installers who edit schemas. To find the elements associated with a datapoint, use [Used datapoints](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-used/) instead: the two panels serve different purposes, finding where a piece of data is used or examining the reported issues. ## Before you start - Your role allows **View schemas** and **Edit schemas**. - You are working on a computer, in a supervision opened directly or from the hypervision. ## Open the Issues panel and find the element 1. Open **Schemas** in the header bar or in the **Menu**. On the schema row, open **Actions → Edit schema**, then wait for the name and the drawing to load. 2. If **Issues** appears at the bottom right of the drawing area, click it. Its counters distinguish errors, in red, from warnings, in orange. 3. In **Detected issues**, read the message and the layer shown. The issues of the active layer are grouped first; an issue concerning the whole schema, such as its name, appears in the **Schema** group. 4. If necessary, click the header of a group to expand it. 5. For an issue linked to an element, click **Locate** on its row. The layer concerned is displayed and the element can be examined in **Configuration**. 6. If the layer changes without Configuration opening, wait for it to load, then click **Locate** again, on the same row. On the drawing, small red **!** badges flag the errors of the active layer. The orange warning badges appear when the Issues panel is open. Hover over a badge to read its message; clicking it locates the element, without fixing it. The **Close** cross closes the panel without fixing the issues. The button and the panel disappear when no issue is reported. After a change, give the message time to update. ## Identify the reported issue | Message | Level | Fix | | --- | --- | --- | | **The schema has no name.** | Error | Enter the schema name, as described below. | | **No image loaded for this element.** | Error | Upload the image of the Image element, as described below. | | **No datapoint selected. If this element is purely visual, mark it decorative.** | Warning | Link data or mark the element decorative according to its purpose, as described below. | | **The bound datapoint cannot be found — its equipment may have been deleted.** | Error | Locate the element and identify the expected data. The deletion of the equipment is a possibility mentioned by the message, not a certain cause: do not recreate equipment on this basis alone. | | **Dynamic text with no datapoint selected.** | Error | Identify the data that this text must display. The decorative status does not replace this selection for a dynamic text. | | **The navigation link has no valid destination.** | Error | Identify the schema or layer that the link must open, then [configure its destination](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-link-destination/). Saving does not choose it for you. | | **Conditional rules are defined but no datapoint is being watched.** | Warning | Identify the data that must drive these rules before changing other elements. | | **No component selected for this card.** | Warning | Identify the expected equipment in the card: its presence in the drawing does not mean that equipment is selected in it. | To create an element from existing data or place a component card, see [the Datapoints palette](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-palette/). If the selection or the necessary fix remains uncertain, note the exact message, the element type and the intended result before contacting support. Do not attribute a cause to the issue without having established it. ## Give the schema a name In **Schema name**, at the top of the left panel, enter a non-empty name. Fictitious example: **Reception plan**. Spaces alone are not enough. The message about the name should disappear; other issues may remain. [Then save the schema](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-editor-save/). A drawing that is still empty may not show this message in Issues: the name is still required to save. ## Upload the image of an Image element The message **No image loaded for this element.** concerns an **Image** element placed in the drawing, not the background image of the layer. 1. In Detected issues, click **Locate** on the row of the image, or click its red **!** badge. 2. In **Configuration**, open the **Style** tab, scroll if necessary to the **Image** section, then click **Upload image**. 3. Choose an image file available on your computer, preferably a small one. For this element import, a file larger than **10 MB** is not accepted; the [layer background](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-background/) uses a different path, with a different limit. 4. Wait for the preview of the image in Configuration and for the message to disappear for this element. Only this preview confirms the import. 5. Click **Save** in the left panel, review the confirmation, then confirm the save. If no preview appears, check that the file is really an image, that its size respects the limit and that it opens normally on your computer. Then try a small image that you can open. ## Link data or mark an element decorative The message **No datapoint selected. If this element is purely visual, mark it decorative.** flags an interactive element with no data selected. Choose what to do next according to its purpose: - For a pictogram or an intentionally visual element, with no data to control or display, the decorative status may be appropriate. - For an element that must control a device or display data, keep that purpose and associate the expected data; for an Icon button, follow [Configuration → Interaction → Linked data](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-binding/). The decorative status does not create this binding. To mark an intentionally visual element: 1. In **Detected issues**, find its warning. If it is in another layer, first click **Locate** to display that layer. 2. Click **Mark decorative** on the row of the element. This action is offered for the relevant types, on the active layer. If Configuration covers this button, close **Configuration** with its **Close** cross, then continue in Detected issues. 3. A message confirms that the element is marked as decorative and the warning concerned disappears. Other errors or warnings may remain. 4. This change still belongs to the draft: save the schema to keep it. Before saving, **Undo (Ctrl+Z)** then **Redo (Ctrl+Y)**, in the bottom bar, let you go back on this local change. You can also select the element, open **Configuration → Interaction**, then use the **Decorative element** switch. Turning it off does not create a binding: the warning comes back if no data is chosen. Some interaction settings are unavailable in decorative mode. If data is already linked to a functional element, the switch can be disabled with the message **Remove the datapoint binding to mark this element decorative.** Do not remove a useful binding just to make a warning disappear. For a purely visual test on a drawing you are allowed to edit, search for **Icon button** in **Search elements…**, in the palette on the left, then click its tile: the element is added and its configuration opens. Then configure it according to its purpose and save it to keep it. It does not automatically create a command linked to a device. ## Save a schema that still has issues The **Save schema?** box can show a number of errors and warnings. With errors, the confirmation button becomes **Save anyway**. - **Cancel** closes this confirmation and keeps the draft so you can fix the elements. - **Save anyway** can save the incomplete drawing: for example, an Image element without an image is found again with the same message when reopening. This action fixes no element, and the saved drawing may not be operational. ## Check the result 1. After the fixes you want, save, then read the result messages and the layer summary. 2. Reopen the right schema and explicitly select the right layer. 3. Check that the fixed messages no longer appear in **Issues** and, for an Image element, that the image is displayed. When the Issues button disappears, the editor no longer detects any incomplete element in the drawing. The operation of the installation is checked separately. ## Troubleshooting - If the save does not succeed, see [save troubleshooting](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-editor-help/). - If a message remains hard to interpret, see [the errors and warnings FAQ](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-schema-validation-help/). - If **Locate** still does not open Configuration after a second click, or if the image still does not appear with a small valid image, note the message and your attempts. - If you cannot set up the intended configuration for an element that must control or display data, note the element and the expected data. If the problem persists, contact support@can-nx.com, quoting the exact message, the schema and layer, the element type, the intended result and what you have already tried; for an image, add the type and size of the file. Do not send sensitive content.
