The location picker offers a search, a selection by building part and a counter. Intended for the administrator or installer who creates or edits a [standing rule of a role’s scope](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-role-scope-rules/). To allow or deny a specific item outside the rules, use the [role’s overrides](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-role-scope-overrides/). ## Choose the location mode 1. Open **Menu → Users**, **Roles** tab, then **Edit → Components & Building**, and add a rule or edit one. 2. In **Where in the building**, select the appropriate mode. | Mode | Locations offered | | --- | --- | | **Anywhere** | The whole building, with nothing to choose. This mode broadens the scope: choose it only if this access is wanted. | | **Specific floors** | The floors, grouped by building part when this organization exists. | | **Specific zones** | The zones, with the name of their floor. A zone attached directly to a part may show **Directly on part**. | Items without a building part are grouped separately, under **No assigned building part**. When several locations have the same name, identify the right one by its building part or its floor. Tick at least one floor or zone: without a selection, **Add rule** stays disabled, as does **Save** while editing a rule. Changing mode clears the locations ticked in the previous mode. If you go from **Specific floors** to **Specific zones** and then back to floors, tick the floors you want again. ## Search for a location 1. Type part of the name in **Filter floors…** or **Filter zones…**. 2. Review the suggested rows. The search also covers the building part name and, for zones, the floor name displayed alongside: a matching part name shows the locations of that part. Check these rows before any bulk selection. The search ignores case and leading or trailing spaces; use the spelling displayed, accents included. It does not change the checkboxes already ticked. The **… of … visible · … selected** counter distinguishes the results displayed from the total number of locations kept. ## Select several locations | Control | Effect on the selection | | --- | --- | | Floor or zone checkbox | Adds or removes this location. | | Building part checkbox | Ticks or unticks the locations of this part that are visible in the current list. A partial selection shows an intermediate state. | | **Select all matches** | Offered during a search. Ticks the results displayed and keeps the locations already ticked, even those hidden by the search. | | **Clear selection** | Removes all the locations ticked in the current mode, including those hidden by the search. | | Arrow of a part | Collapses its rows without removing their selections. | For example, after ticking a floor, a search for another part followed by **Select all matches** keeps that first floor. To start from scratch, click **Clear selection**, then tick only the locations you want. ## Clear the search and confirm the rule The **Clear search** cross, next to the field, shows the full list again without removing the choices. In a non-empty search field, **Escape** also clears the search. 1. Clear the search to see all locations again. 2. Expand the relevant parts, then review the checkboxes and the selection counter. 3. Also check the rule’s types or functional groups: they limit its matches too. 4. Click **Add rule**, or **Save** in the edit window. **Cancel** or the **Close** cross abandons the current choices in the window. ## Check the result 1. Review the location names on the rule card. 2. Save the role with **Save** in the editor’s bottom bar, then wait for **Role updated**. 3. Have an account concerned open a new session and check the components it sees in these locations. ## Troubleshooting | Symptom | Action | | --- | --- | | **Add rule** stays disabled | Tick at least one floor or zone. | | **No floors available** or **No zones available** | Have the administrator or installer check the building topology. | | **No matches for "…"** | Shorten the search and use the spelling displayed, especially accents. | | Ticked floors have disappeared | The mode changed in the meantime: tick them again in the mode you want. | | The access obtained is not the one expected | Check the rule’s types, then the [role’s overrides](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-role-scope-overrides/): a manual deny wins. | If the problem persists or an expected location is still missing, contact support@can-nx.com with the supervision, the role, the location and the checks performed.
