--- title: Link a Boss’nX datapoint to a Link’nX scenario or action description: "Add a Linknx datapoint in Boss’nX that triggers a Link’nX scenario or action: choosing the target, optional value, confirmation and error messages." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-point-linknx/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX on a computer: component editor, Linknx datapoint linked to a Link’nX gateway of the project" --- # Link a Boss’nX datapoint to a Link’nX scenario or action Context: Boss’nX on a computer: component editor, Linknx datapoint linked to a Link’nX gateway of the project A Linknx datapoint adds a **Run** button to a Boss’nX component that triggers a scenario or action already defined on a Link’nX gateway of the project. It is a trigger: it provides neither status feedback nor an alarm, and no KNX address or DPT needs to be filled in for this link. Intended for administrators and installers with **Manage components**, in the relevant supervision, on a computer. To use the datapoint once it is configured, follow [running a Link’nX action or scenario](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-command-linknx/). ## Before you start - The action or scenario is already defined on a gateway of the project, and its use is confirmed by the installer. - To keep an existing measurement or alarm, plan a separate datapoint in the component: the Linknx datapoint does not replace them. ## Add the Linknx datapoint 1. Open **Components** in your bar or through **Menu → Components**, then click the **Edit component** pencil on the card. For a new component, choose **Add component**. The general settings are described in [the common form](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component-edit/). 2. Click **Add point**, then choose **Linknx** in its header. 3. Fill in a **Label** that will let the user recognize the command. The header shows **Trigger — no feedback, no alarm**. ## Choose the scenario or action 1. In **Linknx scenario or action**, open **Pick a target…**. If the selector is unavailable while loading, wait. 2. Type part of the name in **Search for a scenario or an action…**. Differences in capitalization and accents do not prevent the search: **general** can find **général** (fictitious example). The search works on the target’s name; the gateway’s name is not used as a filter. 3. Find the **Scenarios** or **Actions · type** group, then click the target you want. If several targets have the same name, the name of their gateway is added to their row: check it before choosing. 4. In the closed selector, review the name and the **Scenario**, **Action** or **Action · type** badge. The list groups the targets of all the project’s gateways. The chosen target determines the datapoint’s gateway: you do not need to change the component’s general gateway to direct this datapoint. A target marked **disabled** can remain visible in the list, without its presence indicating that it can be executed. Have the target and its use checked in Link’nX before offering this command to users. ## Set the value and the confirmation For an **action**, the **Value (optional)** field appears to the right of the target, with the help text **empty = the action's own default**. 1. Leave the field empty to use the action’s own value, if it suits the intended use. 2. Otherwise, enter the number confirmed for this action. For example, **50** is a possible fictitious value once the installer has confirmed its meaning; this number is not automatically 50% for all actions. 3. To return to the action’s default value, clear the field. 4. Check **Confirm command** if the user must confirm before sending. A **scenario** does not show a **Value (optional)** field: the value entered for a previous action is not passed to it. **Any new target selection resets the optional value to empty**, even if you select the same action again. After a change, check the target again, its gateway when it is shown, the value and the confirmation. If the meaning, the unit or the values accepted by the action are not known, have them confirmed by the installer or by support before entering a value. ## Save the link 1. Leave the last field and review the **Label**, the target, whether it is an action or a scenario, any value and the confirmation. 2. Click **Create** for a new component, or **Save** for an existing component. Before saving, **Back** discards the changes to the current component. ## Check the result 1. After returning to the original page, reopen the component and check the settings that were kept. 2. Once the link is checked, test the datapoint by following [running a Link’nX action or scenario](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-command-linknx/), then watch the result on the installation. Saving validates the datapoint’s configuration, not the physical result of a command. During use, **Sent** shows that the request has left: it is not an execution feedback from the scenario. ## Correct or remove the datapoint - To correct the link after saving, reopen the datapoint, select another target if needed, then save again. - To remove this trigger from the component, delete the datapoint, then save. This deletion only affects the component: it is not a procedure for deleting the action or scenario in Link’nX. The consequences for the component are described in [organizing and deleting datapoints](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component-copy-points/). ## Troubleshooting | Display or symptom | Check and action | | --- | --- | | **Pick a Linknx scenario or action.** | Open the selector and click a target: search text alone selects nothing. | | **Invalid value — enter a number.** | Enter a number confirmed for the action, or clear the field to use its default value. | | **No target matches this search.** | Clear or shorten the search. The small cross to the right of the search clears the filter; it does not remove the target already linked to the datapoint. | | **No scenario or action is defined on this project's gateways.** | Check the project and have the expected actions and scenarios checked on its gateways. Do not invent a target or a KNX address to fill in the form. | | **Could not load Linknx scenarios and actions** | Click **Retry**. If the error comes back, check your session and the context, then contact support. This loading failure does not mean that the targets have been deleted. | | Struck-through name, **Target not found** badge and the hint **Deleted from the gateway? Pick a new target or remove this point.** | The linked target no longer appears in the list retrieved. Have the link and the gateway checked before concluding that it was deleted. Choose a confirmed replacement target, or remove the datapoint if it is no longer needed, then save. | | Save without a clear result | Follow [the common form troubleshooting](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component-edit/) and check whether the component already exists before starting a new creation. | ## Where do I choose this datapoint’s gateway? It follows the target selected in **Linknx scenario or action**. If several targets have the same name, choose the correct one using the gateway name shown in the list. ## Why did my value disappear? A new target selection resets **Value (optional)** to empty. Enter again only the value suited to the target now chosen; a scenario does not take this value. ## Does the small cross delete the link? No: in the target search, it clears the filter. To replace the link, select another target and save; to remove the trigger from the component, delete the datapoint and then save. ## Can I have status feedback or an alarm on this datapoint? No, this Linknx datapoint is a trigger. If this use is needed, add a separate read or alarm datapoint with a confirmed mapping; if the mapping is unknown, contact support. ## Contact support Contact support@can-nx.com if a target remains missing, if loading still fails after **Retry** or if the link cannot be confirmed. Give the supervision, the component, the datapoint, the target name, the expected gateway, the exact message and the checks already done. If the messages changed during your tests, give their order, from the first display to the latest result: for example, a target first not found, then a failure to load the targets. A screenshot without sensitive data can help; no password or access key is needed.
