--- title: "KNX datapoint in Boss’nX: display, controls and pulses" description: "Set how a KNX datapoint appears in Boss’nX: + / − buttons or slider, value list, boolean texts and colors, and a pulse button for an impulse relay." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-point-display/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX on a computer: component editor, options of a KNX read or command datapoint" --- # KNX datapoint in Boss’nX: display, controls and pulses Context: Boss’nX on a computer: component editor, options of a KNX read or command datapoint In the Boss’nX component editor, these settings determine how a KNX datapoint is displayed and controlled in the supervision: numeric value with + / − buttons or a slider, value list, texts and colors of a boolean state, pulse button for an impulse relay. They complete [the datapoint’s group addresses and DPT](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-point-knx/). Intended for administrators and installers with **Manage components**, for read and command datapoints. To configure an alarm, follow [configuring a threshold or value alarm](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-point-alarm/) instead. ## Before you start - Open the KNX datapoint in [the component editor](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component-edit/). Its addresses and DPT are confirmed. - The visible options depend on the DPT and on the **Cmd**, **Feedback** and **Alarm** checkboxes in the datapoint’s header. ## Display a number or a value list For a non-boolean datapoint, choose the **Format d'affichage** (display format, shown in French): | Choice | Settings to check | | --- | --- | | **Numeric**, with **Cmd** | Choose **Display style → + / − buttons (current)** or **Slider**. Fill in **Min**, **Max** and **Pas** (step) according to the commands allowed on the installation. | | **Numeric**, with **Feedback** only | The datapoint displays a value: the command settings **Min**, **Max**, **Pas** and the command style are not offered. | | **Value list** | Click **+ Add value** for each option: a number in the first field, its **Label** in the second. With **Cmd**, also choose **Dropdown (current)** or **Buttons** in **Display style**. In read-only mode, the options translate the received values into labels. | Each list option contains a numeric value and a non-empty label. Delete an unnecessary option with the trash can on its row. Leave the last field before reviewing the list and saving. ## Set the limits, unit and factor For a numeric command, the form suggests **0**, **100** and **1** as limits and step. These are starting values, not a range validated for the installation: have the limits and step suited to the hardware confirmed before keeping them. **Unit** and **Factor** can appear for a numeric KNX datapoint. Review the unit after any DPT change. To apply a conversion or correct a measurement, have the expected setting confirmed by the installer. If its effect on the display is not established, contact support before changing **Factor**. Do not infer a conversion formula from the name of this field alone. ## Customize the texts and colors of a boolean datapoint With a boolean DPT, the form shows **Valeur si VRAI** (value if true), **Label si VRAI** (label if true), **Valeur si FAUX** (value if false), **Label si FAUX** (label if false) and a **Couleur** (color) for each state. 1. Check the **1/0** values and the texts suggested according to the DPT, then make sure they match the real meaning for the device. 2. Click the **Couleur** dot of the relevant state to choose its color. After a DPT change, **Replace boolean labels?** can offer to replace your custom texts: - **Apply** accepts the new labels; - **Cancel** refuses this replacement of the texts, without returning to the previous DPT: review the datapoint; - **Don't ask again** skips the following confirmations in this browser session. The texts and colors set how the datapoint is presented. The device’s current state is read from its status feedback. ## Configure a pulse (impulse relay) This option appears for a boolean datapoint with **Cmd**. 1. Check **Pulse (impulse relay)**. 2. By default, each press sends **1**. Check **Send 0 (instead of 1)** only if the intended actuator triggers on **0**. 3. Fill in **Button label (optional)** if needed. 4. To display the received state, check **Feedback** and fill in the feedback address. Without status feedback, the button remains a plain trigger and does not show the current state. 5. For the user to confirm before sending, check **Confirm command** in the datapoint’s header. 6. Save the component, then reopen the datapoint to review the pulse mode, the value sent, the label and the confirmation. A pulse sends the same value on each press; the displayed state only changes when the status feedback is received. This setting defines no duration, no alternation **1 then 0** and no guaranteed state toggle. To use the configured command, see [buttons and pulses](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-command-buttons/). ## Assign a tag and prepare the installation The **Tag** list associates a tag with the datapoint; a tag can also be suggested from the label. Check the selected choice before saving. Tags can be used in the rules or permissions applied to datapoints: managing them is described in [assigning tags](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-tags-assign/). **Pending installation** marks a datapoint prepared before its physical installation. In the viewing screens, it can appear as a grayed-out row with a dash in place of its control, and no alarm is created for this datapoint while it remains pending. It is not a command lock: commands remain active, so do not use this marking to isolate equipment. To interpret a pending row, see [the component display](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component/). ## Check the result 1. Leave the last field, review the values, then click **Create** or **Save**. 2. Reopen the form to check the saved settings. 3. View the component display, then test the command with [setting a numeric value](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-command-numeric/) or the datapoint’s buttons. 4. Check physical operation on the installation, according to its procedure. ## Troubleshooting | Message or symptom | Action | | --- | --- | | **Add at least one option**, **Invalid option value** or **Option label required** | Complete the list rows, with a number and a label, or remove those that are not needed. | | Setting missing from the form | First check the DPT and the checked functions. Do not change protocol at random. | | Save or display still uncertain | Note the component, the datapoint, the expected setting and the tests already done. | If the problem persists, contact support@can-nx.com with this information. French labels: checkboxes **Cmd**, **Re.Etat** and **Alarme**; **Numérique**, **Liste de valeurs**, **Style d'affichage**, **Boutons + / − (actuel)**, **Slider**, **Menu déroulant (actuel)**, **Boutons**, **+ Ajouter une valeur**, **Unité**, **Facteur**, **Impulsion (télérupteur)**, **Envoyer 0 (au lieu de 1)**, **Label du bouton (optionnel)**, **Confirmation envoi commande**, **En attente d'installation**, **Enregistrer**; dialog **Remplacer les libellés booléens ?** with **Appliquer**, **Annuler** and **Ne plus demander**; messages **Ajouter au moins une option**, **Valeur d'option invalide** and **Label d'option requis**. In the English interface, **Format d'affichage**, **Pas**, **Valeur si VRAI/FAUX**, **Label si VRAI/FAUX** and **Couleur** stay displayed in French in this form.
