--- title: Create components from the KNX project structure in Boss’nX description: "Turn the group addresses of an ETS project into Boss’nX components: review datapoints, select rows, set names and the floor or zone, then create them." canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-structure/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX on a computer: Structure step of KNX commissioning, after the import and the dictionary" --- # Create components from the KNX project structure in Boss’nX Context: Boss’nX on a computer: Structure step of KNX commissioning, after the import and the dictionary The **Structure** step of the Boss’nX KNX commissioning turns the group addresses classified by the dictionary into components ready to create, each with its type, its location and its command and feedback datapoints. There you review the proposals, adjust names and destinations, then create the components in a single operation. Intended for administrators and installers with **Manage topology** and **Manage components**. To update components already created from a new file, follow [the KNX project reimport](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-reimport/). ## Before you start - You work on a computer, in the building supervision. From hypervision, first enter the relevant supervision. - The KNX file is imported and its dictionary saved with a classification available: see [the project import](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-project/) and [the dictionary](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-dictionary/). - The **Master Gateway (optional)** has been checked in the **Import** step. Do this before preparing your final selection: going back and forth between steps may force you to redo the review adjustments. ## Open and read the structure 1. Open **Menu → KNX commissioning**, then the **Structure** step. 2. In **KNX structure and grouped addresses**, each row prepares a component with its **Type**, its **Location** and its **Points**. A detected row is not yet a saved component. 3. Click the row or its chevron on the right, **Expand datapoints of …**. Check the names, addresses and DPTs under **Command** and **Feedback**. Opening another row collapses the previous one. 4. The **Points** pill distinguishes groups, commands and feedbacks; its tooltip gives the details. Also check the addresses themselves, especially the command/feedback pairings. 5. If **Already imported**, **To merge**, **Conflict** or **Ambiguous** badges appear, read [rerunning an import on existing components](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-reimport/) before starting the operation. **Show non-importable items (N)** reveals **Unknown** or **Excluded** items, which are hidden by default. Their checkboxes stay disabled: to make them importable, first correct the relevant rules in **Dictionary**, then check the new classification. Do not create a component whose addresses or DPT remain uncertain. ## Search and filter the rows - **Search a component…** searches component names, detected paths and categories. To search for a KNX address, use **Group addresses** in **Dictionary** instead. - The **Location** and **Type** tabs change how the list is grouped. - The **Location** button with a chevron opens a space filter; it does not change a component’s destination. Check a space to show its content and its descendants. **Included via parent** indicates that a child is already covered by the checked parent: remove that parent to choose only certain children. **Reset**, next to this filter, removes the space filter. - **Filter** opens the type chips. Click the types you want; **Reset tags** removes these filters. These chips filter the list without selecting the components. ## Select the components to create 1. Check **Include**, to the left of each row to create. Clicking the rest of the row opens its details. 2. **Select all** adds the importable rows matching the current filters and search. A header’s checkbox selects the importable rows of that group in the filtered view. 3. **Clear selection** clears the entire selection, including hidden rows. You can then rebuild a precise selection. 4. Before continuing, clear the search and the filters to review all your selections. **Hiding a row does not deselect it.** The number on the **Create N components** button also counts selections that are currently hidden. ## Rename a component Hover over the name of the future component and click the **Rename component** pencil. Enter the **Component name**, then confirm with the **Confirm name** check mark, the Enter key or by leaving the field. The **Cancel rename** cross discards the entry. In the details of a datapoint group, the **Label** field lets you prepare the datapoint’s label; confirm with Enter or by leaving the field. ## Choose the destination floor or zone The destination is set in the cell of the **Location** column, on the relevant row: 1. Open this cell. It can show **Auto**, a path, **Set location…** or **Unassigned**. 2. In **Choose a location**, choose a **Floor** or a **Zone**. **Search a space…** narrows the search; also check the parent path to distinguish similar names. The **existing** badge indicates a space that is already saved; the other suggestions come from the detected spaces. 3. **Auto (detected)** restores the destination deduced from the imported project. **Unassigned** prepares this single component without a floor or zone. Clear the menu search to find these two choices again. 4. Review the path shown in the cell. Components are assigned to a floor or a zone: the menu does not offer a building part alone as a destination. If a space is missing from a long list, narrow the search. The **Location** filter and grouping in the toolbar follow the detected spaces: they do not move the row according to your new destination. ## Create the components 1. In **Structure**, finish entering the last field, then review the selection, names, destinations, addresses and DPTs. 2. Click **Create N components**. This button starts the operation: do not systematically expect an additional confirmation. The spaces needed by the new components can be created with them. Components that are already matched can be updated according to [the reimport procedure](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-reimport/). 3. Wait for **Creating…** to finish and read all the messages. A success accompanied by errors is a partial result. **Import without assignment**, below the main button, imports the selection without creating spaces and without assigning the components to a floor or zone. Reserve this choice for new components that you will then place in their form. To update existing components, follow the reimport procedure with the main button: this link is not equivalent to a merge. Preparing the review does not save the components. Once a creation or an update has started, leaving the step or clicking **Cancel** in another window does not undo operations that have already succeeded. ## Check the result 1. In [Components](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-components-find/), find and open the saved components. 2. Check their name, gateway, floor, zone and datapoints. 3. To complete a configuration, use [the component form](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component-edit/) and [the KNX datapoints](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-point-knx/). A component’s presence in the list concerns its configuration: communication with the hardware is checked separately. ## Troubleshooting - Empty list, greyed-out checkboxes, number to create different from the list, missing or uncertain destination: follow [the structure troubleshooting guide](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-structure-help/). - Partial or unknown result: check what was saved before resuming, as described in that same guide. If the problem persists, contact support@can-nx.com.
