--- title: Select KNX group addresses for data logging in Boss’nX description: Select in Boss’nX the KNX group addresses whose values are recorded for history and charts, then save and check the selection before viewing measurements. canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-monitoring/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX on a computer: KNX addresses tab of Menu → Data logging" --- # Select KNX group addresses for data logging in Boss’nX Context: Boss’nX on a computer: KNX addresses tab of Menu → Data logging The **KNX addresses** tab of the **Data logging** page sets which KNX addresses Boss’nX records for data logging. The measurements are then viewed in [Analytics, Trends tab](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-analytics-consult/): the checkboxes on this page set the addresses to track; they do not merely choose the curves to display. Intended for administrators and installers. The procedure concerns datapoints that use their component’s gateway. To monitor the reachability of IP or KNX devices, use [Network health](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-health/) instead, which is separate from selecting the addresses to log. ## Before you start - Your role has **Manage components**. - You are working on a computer, in the supervision of the relevant building. - You have identified the addresses you want tracked and the existing selections that are still needed. - If a datapoint uses another gateway, or if several installations in the project reuse the same KNX address, contact support before saving to have the suitable selection confirmed. ## Open the configuration 1. Open the relevant supervision; from a hypervision, [enter the building](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-hypervision-switch/). 2. Open **Menu → Data logging**, in the **Integration** family. 3. Choose the **KNX addresses** tab. The **Data logging** title comes with **Select the KNX addresses to record for data logging.** 4. Wait for **Loading addresses…** to finish and locate the **Selected addresses** counter. For Modbus readings intended for the history, use the **Modbus registers** tab of the same page, described in [the Modbus monitoring configuration](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-modbus-config/). ## Find and check an address 1. Choose **Component** to group the list by component. 2. Type part of the address or name in **Search by address, component or label…**, for example **1/1/2** (fictitious address). The search does not require the same capitals or accents. 3. If the tag drop-down list is present, choose **All tags** so as not to limit the search to one tag. 4. Click the group name or its chevron to expand it: groups are initially collapsed. 5. Review the address, the label, the DPT and the **Feedback** or **Action** marker, then check the row you want. These markers distinguish the addresses: checking an **Action** row selects its tracking and sends no command to the equipment. 6. Check the global counter. The search and the filter hide rows without removing the addresses already selected. A **No gateway** row cannot be checked: its component has no assigned gateway. Have this gateway checked with [the KNX datapoints guide](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-point-knx/), without choosing a gateway at random. ## Select several addresses | Control | Effect on the selection | | --- | --- | | Checkbox in a group header, tooltip **Select all** | Selects the checkable addresses of this group that match the current search and filter. If they are all already selected, **Deselect all** removes them. A minus sign indicates a partial selection. | | **Tag** button, next to **Component** | Groups the rows by tag category; addresses without a category are under **No tag**. Changing the grouping does not change the checkboxes. | | **All tags** drop-down list | Filters the rows by the chosen tag, without checking them. | | Chip bearing a tag name in the **Tags** section, above the search | Selects all the checkable addresses of this tag, including those hidden by the filters. If they are all already checked, removes them; a partial selection becomes complete. | Before a global selection, clear the search with the cross on the right of the field, go back to **All tags**, then review the groups concerned and the counter. To filter, use the drop-down list: a chip in the **Tags** section checks or unchecks addresses. ## Keep addresses outside components If **Non-BOSS-nX addresses** appears below the list, expand this section. It contains addresses that are already tracked but not linked to a Boss’nX component, each with its checkbox; they count in the global counter. Keep those whose tracking is still needed and uncheck an address only if you want to stop tracking it. This section provides no field to freely add an address: after saving and reloading, a removed address may no longer be offered there. To recover a missing tracking or find out the effect on historical data, contact support before changing other parameters. ## Save the selection 1. Check the complete selection, including **Non-BOSS-nX addresses**. Unchecked addresses are no longer part of the requested tracking. 2. If a numeric limit is exceeded, remove only the addresses whose tracking can be dropped, or have the necessary capacity confirmed by the administrator or support. 3. Click **Save** and wait for **Saving…** to finish. 4. Wait for the **Monitoring addresses updated.** message, which confirms the save announced by the interface. ## Cancel or correct a selection - Before any save, **Cancel** restores the selection initially loaded. - After a successful save, correct it with a new selection, then **Save**. - After a partial result, **Cancel** does not restore the gateways already updated: go back to [checking the save](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-monitoring-help/). ## Check the result 1. Reopen **Data logging → KNX addresses**, wait for it to load and check the boxes that were kept. 2. Then view [analytics](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-analytics-consult/) with the appropriate datapoints and period: this is where you can see that new measurements are received and which history is available. 3. Have the license terms and the activation of the service checked for the project. The counter’s **unlimited** indication is not enough to confirm them. ## Troubleshooting For a greyed-out save, an exceeded limit, a partial result, no confirmation or missing measurements, follow [KNX monitoring troubleshooting](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-knx-monitoring-help/). If the problem persists, contact support@can-nx.com.
