# Boss’nX dashboard favorites: add or remove a component

Context: Boss’nX, supervision dashboard: Favorites block; changes require the component management right

The **Favorites** block on the **Dashboard** of a Boss’nX supervision gives quick access to selected components. A component appears there when the **Favorite** checkbox is checked in its form; its card then opens its detail in one click.

For the users, administrators and installers of a supervision, opened directly or from a hypervision: each one sees the components and datapoints authorized for their account. For favorites that bring together several supervisions, follow [the hypervision’s aggregated favorites](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-hypervision-favorites/).

## Before you start

- Changing the **Favorite** choice requires the component management right. The right to edit the dashboard layout is separate.
- To add or remove a favorite, use a screen where the component form is readable.

## Open a favorite component

1. Choose the expected supervision, then **Dashboard**. See [the navigation](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-navigation/).
2. Wait for loading to finish and find **Favorites**. The title of this block can be customized. Scroll its content if needed.
3. Read the component name and the preview of its datapoints. A card shows at most two visible datapoints, not necessarily all of the component’s datapoints.
4. Click the component name to open its detail, then check its name in the title. The square icon with a diagonal arrow, at the top right of the card, also bears the label **View details**.
5. Browse the datapoints in the component page. To go back, click the **Back to Favorites** arrow at the top left. On a narrow screen, the text may be hidden and only the arrow remains visible.

To use a command, follow [reading and controlling a component](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component/). Access to favorites does not give additional rights over commands.

## Add a component to favorites

1. Choose **Components** in the page bar, or open **Menu → Components**.
2. In **Component Management**, find the component, then open its detail from its card. If needed, use [component search and filters](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-components-find/).
3. Check the component name. To the right of its title, click the edit icon whose tooltip is **Edit component**.
4. In **Edit component**, check **Favorite**, in the general information, next to the **Gateway** choice.
5. Without touching the other settings, click the green **Save** button, fixed at the bottom right.
6. Wait for the result and the return to the component detail.

Checking **Favorite** prepares the change; only **Save** validates the component form. If form errors appear, read the relevant indications and have the settings checked by the administrator or installer before changing them. Do not change addresses or datapoints just to get a favorite card.

## Remove a favorite or undo a change

1. Open the component detail from **Favorites**.
2. Click **Edit component** and uncheck **Favorite**.
3. Click **Save**.

Only the favorite choice is removed: the component remains available in the supervision according to your rights.

Before **Save**, the **Back** button, at the top left of the form, lets you leave the preparation. To undo a choice already saved, reopen the same component, set **Favorite** to the desired state and save again.

## Check the result

Open **Dashboard** after saving. After an addition, the component’s card appears in **Favorites**; after a removal, it no longer appears there. To read the component’s other datapoints, open its detail from the name on the card.

## Troubleshooting

- **No favorite components.**: wait for loading to finish, check the supervision, then search for the component in **Components**. An authorized account can check its **Favorite** checkbox. Visibility restrictions still apply.
- The **Favorites** block is missing: have the **Favorites** checkbox in **Visible widgets** checked, following [dashboard organization](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-dashboard-layout/), as well as the widgets authorized for the role.
- **Edit component** is missing: have the component management right checked.
- A datapoint is missing in the small card: open the detail from the name. If it is also missing in the detail, follow [component troubleshooting](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component/).
- After **Save**, the expected card is missing: check the same component, its **Favorite** choice and the dashboard’s supervision once. If the state remains uncertain or if these checks have already been made, contact support.
