# Reorder a component’s datapoints by drag and drop in Boss’nX

In the detail of a Boss’nX component, a drag and drop changes the display order of its datapoints in the supervision, including the first datapoints shown on compact cards. The change is sent as soon as you move a row, without a save button.

Intended for the administrator or installer who is authorized to modify the component and has a complete view of its datapoints. To read the values and use the commands, see [reading the component’s datapoints](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component/) instead.

## Before you start

- Your account is authorized to modify the component and sees all its datapoints. If it only sees some of them, or if you cannot confirm that your view is complete, ask the administrator to handle this setting; for a procedure suited to this scope, contact support.
- Work on a computer: the move is done with the mouse.
- Note the current order if you want to be able to restore it. This path offers no automatic undo button.

## Move a row or a group

1. From **Building**, **By floor** tab, open the zone, then the component’s detail through its name or the **View details** icon.
2. Check the component’s name.
3. Hold the mouse button down on a datapoint’s label, in the left part of its row. Avoid the command buttons and fields on the right.
4. Drag the row up or down, then release it at the position you want.
5. Wait for the move to finish before starting another one.

Datapoints shown in the same group move together. This gesture does not change their order within the group.

For example, in a fictional component, you can move **Supply temperature** below **Return temperature**. Use the labels actually configured on your site.

There is no **Save** button for this operation. Leaving the page does not cancel the moves already made.

## Check the result

1. Use the back arrow at the top left, then reopen the same component.
2. Check that the order was kept.
3. Check the preview of compact cards: for a card reduced to two datapoints, the first two visible datapoints determine its preview. This display also depends on the datapoints accessible to the account viewing the card.

To restore the previous order, make the reverse moves with the same authorized account, then check again.

## Troubleshooting

- A row does not move: check that you are grabbing its label and try from a computer.
- Several rows move together: check whether they belong to the same group.
- The order returns to its previous position, expected datapoints are missing or an error message appears: stop moving rows.
