--- title: Duplicate a component or a datapoint and organize datapoints in Boss’nX description: Duplicate a Boss’nX component or one of its datapoints, check the KNX addresses kept or incremented, then order, group or remove datapoints in the form. canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component-copy-points/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: Boss’nX, Components page and component form on a computer, with the Manage components right --- # Duplicate a component or a datapoint and organize datapoints in Boss’nX Context: Boss’nX, Components page and component form on a computer, with the Manage components right In Boss’nX, duplicating a component prepares a new component from an existing card; duplicating a datapoint adds its copy in the component form, with an incremented label and, for a recognized KNX address, an incremented address. The same form is used to order, group and remove datapoints. Intended for administrators and installers with **Manage components**. The two kinds of duplication do not handle addresses in the same way: check the suggested settings before each save. ## Duplicate a component 1. In the correct supervision, open **Components** in your bar or through **Menu → Components**. 2. Find the card you want with [search and filters](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-components-find/). Check its name and location. 3. Click the two-documents icon **Duplicate component**, at the top right of the card. The **Create component** form opens with **(Copy)** added to the name. The copy is only being prepared: this click does not create it. 4. Choose a distinct name and check the type, floor, zone, gateway, **Favorite**, then each of the datapoints. 5. **The KNX addresses of the copied component still need to be checked and adapted**: duplication does not replace them with free addresses for another device. 6. Review the comment, any memo and the datapoint groups displayed, then complete the necessary items. 7. If the component uses rules, comparisons or other references, have the installer check that they were carried over before use: duplication alone does not necessarily cover all these uses. If this carry-over is not established, contact support. 8. Click **Create**. **Back** discards the copy in preparation as long as you have not clicked **Create**. After creation, going back to the previous page does not delete it. ## Duplicate a datapoint in a component 1. Open the component form with [Edit component](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component-edit/). 2. On the datapoint you want, click the two small documents **Duplicate point**, at the top right of its block. The new row appears just after the original. 3. Check its label, which is incremented: **Temperature 1** becomes **Temperature 2** (fictitious example); a label without a final number receives **2**. 4. **Check the addresses**: for a recognized KNX address, the last number is incremented, for example **1/1/1** becomes **1/1/2**. This address may already be in use. Near the limit of the last number, do not assume a continuation into the next group. 5. Correct the label, addresses, DPT, gateways and other options according to the new datapoint you expect. For another protocol, check the device or register references: the copy is not a discovery of a new device. 6. Review both datapoints, then click **Save** or **Create**. ## Order and group datapoints In the form, move a datapoint by drag and drop with the handle on the left of its block. A datapoint that belongs to a group moves with the other datapoints of the group. Review the order after the move. The order can also be set from the viewing card, through [a separate path in the detail](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-component-order/). To group neighboring datapoints: 1. Hover over the space between two blocks: a small chain **Link these points** appears in the center. 2. Click the chain. The datapoints form a group; add a neighboring datapoint the same way. 3. To split the group between two datapoints, use **Unlink these points** at that location. To remove the whole grouping, use the small **Group** pill, whose tooltip is **Unlink group**. 4. Click **Save** or **Create**. These groups organize how the datapoints are presented. Two linked datapoints do not automatically receive the same command. ## Remove a datapoint from the form The **Delete point** trash can, at the top right of the block, immediately removes the datapoint from the preparation, without confirmation in this path. The removal is only kept after saving. Before removing an existing datapoint, have the alarms, rules and other uses that reference it checked. A comparison that uses this datapoint may require selecting its reference datapoints again. To discard the unsaved changes to an existing component, use **Back**, then reopen its card and check the datapoints. ## Check the result - After creating a copy, find the new card and reopen **Edit component** to check the saved settings. - After saving, reopen the component to check the duplicated datapoints, the grouping and the order. - Check the copy’s uses with the installer before using it on the installation. ## Troubleshooting - Component created by mistake: check its uses, then follow [deletion from the list](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-components-delete/). - Error after removing a datapoint: have the references that used it checked. Do not delete other items just to make the error disappear. - Saved change to undo: **Back** no longer cancels it, and a recovery requires a suitable procedure. If this procedure is not established, or if the carry-over of a reference remains uncertain, contact support@can-nx.com with the component, the datapoint concerned, the changes and the checks already done.
