--- title: View BACnet objects and their intrinsic alarming in Boss’nX description: Find the BACnet objects discovered on a device in Boss’nX and read their type, instance, unit and intrinsic alarming state with search and type filter. canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-bacnet-objects/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX, building supervision: Menu → BACnet devices, View discovered objects window" --- # View BACnet objects and their intrinsic alarming in Boss’nX Context: Boss’nX, building supervision: Menu → BACnet devices, View discovered objects window The discovered objects window in Boss’nX lists the BACnet objects of a device: type, instance, name, unit and intrinsic alarming state. It shows the information obtained during discovery: it displays no live measurement and controls no object. Intended for administrators and installers with **Manage BACnet**. To use an object in a component, then follow [the configuration of a BACnet datapoint](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-point-bacnet/). ## Open the objects window 1. In the relevant supervision, open **Menu → BACnet devices**, in the **Integration** family; if it is folded, click its title first. On a tablet or phone, **Menu** is at the bottom of the screen, to the right of the bar. 2. Find the device, then click the **View discovered objects** eye on its row or card. If the eye is missing, [run or troubleshoot discovery](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-bacnet-discovery/). 3. Check the device name at the top of the window. 4. Scroll through the list. On a narrow screen, also scroll the table horizontally to see the last columns. 5. Leave with **Close**, at the bottom, or the cross at the top. After a new discovery, close and reopen this window to view the new result. ## Search for an object 1. Enter a name, a description or an instance in **Search (name, description, instance…)**. 2. To limit the list to one type, select it in the **All types** list, which shows the number of objects per type. 3. If an object seems to be missing, empty the search field and set **All types** again. If the object is still missing, check the discovery result, in particular the **Partial** badge, before concluding that it has disappeared. ## Read a row | Column | What it tells you | | --- | --- | | **Type** | **AI/AO/AV**: analog input, output or value; **BI/BO/BV**: binary input, output or value; **MI/MO/MV**: multistate input, output or value. | | **Instance** | The instance of this object. The type and the instance together identify the object; the device instance is in the device list. | | **Name** | The discovered name, or **(no name)** if it is not filled in. A description may appear under the name. | | **Units** | The available unit, for example **°C**. A dash means that no unit is provided for the object, not that the measured value is zero. | | **Alarm** | The configuration state of intrinsic reporting obtained during discovery, described below. | The objects are sorted by type, then by instance. The window has no instantaneous value column: to view a measurement or act on the installation, use the supervision component configured for this purpose. The installer can point it out to you if necessary. ## Understand the Alarm column Intrinsic reporting is the BACnet mechanism by which the device itself evaluates an object’s alarm conditions and sends the corresponding notifications. The **Alarm** column shows how it was configured at the time of discovery: - Green chip **Intrinsic alarming active**: the object’s intrinsic reporting was enabled. The chip describes a configuration, not an alarm triggered right now. - Grey chip **Capable, not configured on device**: the object supports this reporting, without an active configuration in the received result. - Dash: no supported intrinsic reporting is identified for this object in this result. Other alarms may exist elsewhere in the installation. These chips are not switches: the window does not let you enable, disable or acknowledge an alarm. Before changing the device parameters because of a color, check the objective with the installer. ## Troubleshooting | Need or symptom | Action | | --- | --- | | Read the current temperature | This window identifies the objects and their characteristics; it gives no current measurement. Open the intended supervision component; if you do not know which one to use, ask the installer or support. | | A name, a unit or an object is missing | Remove the filters, then check the last discovery. If it is partial or failed, follow [discovery troubleshooting](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-bacnet-discovery/). | | Change the device’s address or instance | Close the window and follow [edit the BACnet declaration](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-bacnet-devices/). The object rows are not used to configure components. | ## Contact support If the result remains incomplete after these checks, write to support@can-nx.com with the device name, the type and instance you are looking for, the displayed message and the attempts already made. French labels: **Menu → Appareils BACnet**, **Intégration**, **Afficher les objets découverts**, **Rechercher (nom, description, instance…)**, **Tous les types**, **Partielle**, columns **Type**, **Instance**, **Nom**, **Unités**, **Alarme**, tooltips **Alarme intrinsèque active** and **Compatible, non configurée sur l'appareil**, **Fermer**.
