--- title: "Declare a BACnet device in Boss’nX: IP address, port and instance" description: Add a BACnet/IP device to a Boss’nX supervision with its IP address, port 47808, device instance and gateway, then edit or delete its declaration. canonical: https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-bacnet-devices/ language: en product: Boss’nX audience: - administrateur - installateur context: "Boss’nX, building supervision: Menu → BACnet devices, with the Manage BACnet right" --- # Declare a BACnet device in Boss’nX: IP address, port and instance Context: Boss’nX, building supervision: Menu → BACnet devices, with the Manage BACnet right The **BACnet devices** page in Boss’nX lists the BACnet devices of a supervision with their IP address, port, instance and the gateway that reaches them. There you declare a new device, correct its parameters or delete its declaration. Intended for administrators and installers, in a supervision opened directly or from hypervision. The declaration comes before [BACnet discovery](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-bacnet-discovery/), which then lists the device’s objects. ## Before you start - Your role has the **Manage BACnet** right; see [a role’s capabilities](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-role-capabilities/). Viewing access does not give access to this page. - The installer has confirmed the device parameters: IP address, port, BACnet instance and the gateway that must reach it. - A gateway is available on the site: without one, saving remains disabled. ## Open the BACnet device list 1. Open the relevant supervision. 2. Choose **Menu → BACnet devices**, in the **Integration** family; if it is folded, click its title first. On a tablet or phone, **Menu** is at the bottom of the screen, to the right of the bar. 3. Find the device by its name, gateway, address and instance. **Search (name, IP, gateway…)** also accepts the port or the instance. If no row matches, empty the search with **Clear**. On a computer, click **Name**, **Gateway**, **Address** or **Instance** to sort the list: successive clicks switch from ascending to descending order, then to no imposed order. On mobile, the devices appear as cards. The **Configured** indicator shows that the device is declared. Whether the device and its gateway are reachable is then checked by discovery. ## Declare or edit a device 1. Click **Add device**, at the top of the list, or **Declare a device** if it is empty. To edit an entry, click the **Edit** pencil on its row or card. 2. Check the title **New BACnet device** or **Edit BACnet device**. 3. Fill in the fields using the table below. 4. Click **Save** and wait for the form to close. | Field | What to enter | | --- | --- | | **Name** | A recognizable name, for example **Test ventilation** (fictional example). | | **IP address** | The address of the BACnet device confirmed for the installation. | | **Port** | The confirmed port of the device. Creation suggests **47808**, the usual BACnet/IP port. | | **Device instance** | The BACnet instance of this device. The form suggests **0** at creation: replace it with the expected value instead of keeping the default. | | **Gateway** | The gateway that must reach the device. Check the suggested choice; if there are several gateways, select the right one. With a single gateway, its name is displayed without a list of choices. | **Cancel** or the **Close** cross abandons the pending changes. Once the device is saved, reopen it to correct a parameter, then save again. ## Delete a declaration 1. Check with the installer which components use this device and the exact name of the entry to delete. 2. Click the **Delete** trash icon on its row or card. The deletion starts immediately: **there is no confirmation step in this path**. 3. Check that the entry has disappeared from the list. No button here undoes a successful deletion. To recover a declaration or find out the effect of the deletion on components, contact support: recreating an entry with the same name does not necessarily restore their uses. If **This device is used by the following components:** appears, the device stays in place. Note the listed components and have the installer examine these uses. Do not delete the components only to force the deletion. ## Check the result 1. Find the entry in the list. A search that is still active may hide a renamed entry. 2. Reopen **Edit** to review the saved parameters. 3. Then run [BACnet discovery](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-bacnet-discovery/) to examine the objects exposed by the device. Saving does not start this discovery and does not test communication with the hardware. 4. To interpret the resulting list, [view the discovered objects](https://wiki.can-nx.com/en/guides/boss-bacnet-objects/). ## Troubleshooting | Situation or message | Action | | --- | --- | | **BACnet devices** missing from the **Menu**, or **You don't have permission to view this page** | Check the open supervision and have the **Manage BACnet** right checked on your role. | | **No gateway available for this site. Create a gateway first.** | Saving is disabled. Have the installer check the project and the gateway’s attachment. If you do not have the appropriate procedure, contact support. | | **The gateway this device was linked to no longer exists. Pick another one.** | Saving remains disabled until a valid gateway is chosen. Choose an existing gateway only after confirming that it must take over this device. | | **Save failed** or **Delete failed** | Note the message. If the save is uncertain, reopen the list and empty the search before recreating an entry, to avoid a duplicate. | ## Contact support If the problem persists, write to support@can-nx.com with the supervision, the device name, the displayed message and the attempts already made. For a refused deletion, attach the displayed list of components and the checks made. Do not send any password or access key.
